Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Edit: Pinned.

Gog's new customer base

"I can't login"

"Now I can't buy a game"

"Help I can't download my game now"

"Where's my steam key"

Good luck gog

summary of what I think can be found here

let's be honest now. we all saw this coming, there have been too many signs where GOG was headed (and is heading now). we just chose to give GOG the benefit of the doubt. It was good while it lasted, but for me it is extremely hard to have any confidence in GOG anymore. Will I keep buying games from GOG? Sure, especially old GOG exclusives. Will I treat GOG as my exclusive store for gaming purchases, force all my friends to use it and prefer it over Steam?

DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH!

ElTerprise: The whole notion of bundling Galaxy with the offline installers just feels like an unnecessary amount of additional work because you'd have to make sure that you'll keep the Galaxy version bundled up-to-date with the unbundled one otherwise the aforementioned problems can happen. Good luck with that - there are already delays in keeping the offline installers in line with the Galaxy without Galaxy on top of it which is frankly not reassuring.
That wouldn't even help. The whole point of the offline DRM free installers is that you can download an installer now, and use it to install the game anywhere, anytime.

For instance, think about what happens if someone downloads an installer on Saturday (after this change has taken effect) and either never gets around to installing it or installs it, completes the game, and then uninstalls it again. Now fast forward two years. Said user now feels like playing the game again (or for the first time, if they never got around to it originally). They think "ah, I already have the installer that I downloaded back then, I'll just install it from that". What happens to their current Galaxy installation?

GOG will surely have their work cut out for them keeping the installers available for download up-to-date, but they can't do anything about the installers people have already downloaded.

This is BS of the highest order, in case you (GOG) haven't thought about this before (which seems to be the case or you wouldn't have come up with this crackpot idea in the first place):

People exclusively using offline installers do so consciously because they don't want to have ANYTHING to do with Galaxy. They are very well aware of Galaxy and its "convenience" and "quality of life" features (besides other completely pointless crap like achievements) but are perfectly fine with downloading, managing, keeping games up to date, or backing up save games by themselves MANUALLY.

Otherwise they wouldn't have chosen the offline installers over Galaxy in the first place, simple as that.

I see the point of bundling Galaxy with offline installers for games with multiplayer functionality which wouldn't work without Galaxy but for everything else, especially singleplayer-only titles? Hell NO!

If, for example you want to or for some inexplicable reason absolutely must have achievements and their annoying, immersion-breaking notifications pop up on the screen at the most inappropriate moments you should be able to do so by installing Galaxy SEPARATELY but it should NOT and IN NO CASE be forced or imposed on you because you accidentally forgot to uncheck something during the installation process of a game for which the inclusion of Galaxy with the respective offline installers IS NOT required in any way for the game to function and work.

Not to often the forum members can all agree on something... we may not all agree on the best way of handling it or if should even be done. But I think we can all agree that what GOG is currently proposing isn't great.

Go back the drawing board. I have to say I find it weird that GOG constantly does things nobody is really asking for rather than doing this things we ask for every single day. What the hell is up with that?

Anyway, if done differently I can get behind this but right now it's a bad idea.

Ya konw, fables is kinda right in terms of being optional (Well if Galaxy is required for multiplayer) but, other clients like steam or Origin forces you to install the client regardless.

Just sayin'.

Well, it seems to work for Nintendo, so...

BKGaming: There is also another way of looking at this... Steam has pretty much proven the theory that giving pirates a better experience can lead to more sales and less pirates. Many former pirates even admitted they stopped (or did so less) because Steam made the process so easy and provided more value.
Sure, that would be the corporate way.

BKGaming: We all know piracy is a fact of life, and GOG's installers get passed around a lot... by doing this they can 1. Advertise to people that may not be familiar with GOG and 2. Show people there is a greater value in being a legit customer. Sure not everyone cares about achievements and cloud saves, but some future feature they may care about. Even if a few people became more tempted to purchase rather than pirate that is a win for GOG.
GOG - catering to the Galaxy needs of pirates since May 2017.

By the way, please enlighten me as to how a pirate downloading GOG's game installers may be unfamiliar with GOG itself.
Right now everyone in here from my generation is thinking of New Coke and screaming.

Like the regional pricing/locking i didn't see this one coming.
Not a big fan of it, nope.

What was the thought process behind this ?
Nobody will notice?
Nobody cares?
The majority of our customers will like it?

Or the more likely answer

GOG-Meeting-2017

Employee 1: "Remember when we did THE thing back then."
Employee 2: "Yeah that was something I think nothing will piss of more people then this."
Employee 3: "Hold my beer"

But yeah its your Store, do what you must.

Lemon_Curry: Sure, that would be the corporate way.
Many pirates admit they pirated because of broken games, to demo, because of DRM, and because before Steam the process was more complicated. Once Steam simplified that and offered additional value outside of just the actual game, many pirates also admitted they now purchase more games. Call it what you will though...

Google for pirated game... get offered GOG copy instead of a Steam copy...download... profit? Just because it says GOG on it doesn't mean people understand what that means, what matters is if it works.

EDIT: It also doesn't cater to pirates, these things are locked behind your account which must own the game.

fables22: Hey everyone!

Starting on Friday, we’re going to include the option to install the GOG Galaxy client from the offline installers downloaded via GOG.com in over 100 games.

As many new users discover and download games from our website, we don’t want them to end up with installations that don’t auto-update or backup saves to the cloud. In fact, we want to offer everyone the most convenient experience from the get-go.

Don’t fret, nothing’s changed with our approach to GOG Galaxy being optional, which is why you can easily uncheck the GOG Galaxy installation within the game installer settings.

Last but not least, here’s a list of games that will include the option to install GOG Galaxy: bit.ly/GOG_games_installers
I use galaxy for downloading the installers and updating the already installed. I like it for that. Yet I really dislike this idea. Moreso I immensely dislike the reasoning you have been told to give us because that flat out insulting :(

Even I agree with this.... and I tend to disagree with everyone on principle...
Woa..200 posts in 6 hours..

I currently don't use Galaxy, but I don't have big problems with it as long as it stays optional.

However, it doesn't make sense to have it enabled by default inside standalone installers, because the people who download them are the same who don't use Galaxy.

Also, I hope that its big setup won't be duplicated in every single installer.. O_o

Please, make it an optional external download!
