DarthPonark: Hi again, I also have keys sent to me from an anonymous user for Witcher: Enhanced Edtion and Vampire: the Masquerade - Redemption:

Witcher:

Vampire:

Have a nice day :)
Now if only that had been Subterrain :D

(I didn't redeem either as I have both)
I just noticed the following post in the "official" promo thread: The blues mentioned the freebies were running out a couple of hours before it happened.

Messi_is_Messiah: Ya I was definitely a bit disappointed to see that message saying the free games were all "wolfed down" only AFTER I had bought my tenth game. I feel like I was led on. They should have displayed that message as soon as it happened, not after I had bought my tenth game. Pretty cheap marketing tactic there gog. I probably wouldn't have pulled the trigger on a couple of my games if I had known the freebies "ran out" (how does that even happen, it's not like they're selling physical commodities), but I'm sure gog probably knew that.

Jinxtah: Oh wow that sucks. I was only half way there. Had just bought my fifth game when I saw it. I was on the way to grabbing the 6th one, but luckily saw it first. Hard luck, man.
Oh I didn't realize they actually are showing the message for everyone now. I guess I just had horrible timing, I remember seeing the "1 game left" message right before my last purchase- really bad luck for sure. I'm not as annoyed with gog then, but it's still kinda lame.

I have both games, so I didn't redeem them, but that's really nice of you! :)

This is something that should have been listed on the front page, not buried in a thread.

Not that I agree with limited free title for people who meet gog criteria for a free game, but they could have easily placed a counter on the main page that moves to zero as free games are allotted.

True.

Other user also noted that their sale FAQ mentioned this might happen:
"Keep in mind that the stock of free games is limited. However unlikely, it's possible they may run out."

Again, yes they technically covered their asses with that line, though it was buried in some FAQ, and who really reads that before it's too late. Like I wrote before, it's akin to reading the manual ahead of tinkering with your new piece of hardware. Who does that :)

They shouldn't have run out suddenly, and they should have stated it was a possibility more clearly instead of hiding it in some FAQ.
I've brought 5 games (1 more than i expected to buy) and didn't even expected to get to freebies but c'mon GoG, that's not a cool move from you and I feel kinda bad for everyone who was buying sometimes random stuff just to get to freebie from like 8 games.
You can't "run out" of digital copies. If there are limits to publisher stock, then they always have the games they publish themselves (GOG Ltd.) to fall back on, which they should be giving out instead:
https://www.gog.com/games?devpub=gog_ltd&sort=bestselling&page=1
Not to mention, the games aren't actually "free". It was a buy 10, get one free sale (with a couple twists, but at the end of the day, you were still paying for the freebies with prior purchases. It's mystifying they could "run out" of freebies when these are the same games still on sale...
A sign that we may be getting close to the last run of each game? Hmmm...
I only bought 3 games and never expected to reach 10 for the free game... but it's still kinda a dick move to run out of free games for those actively trying for the free game.
That is bad.

'You have 9 more, 8 more, 7 more...' spending $10 for each towards the 10... then 'oh, we're removing it'.

Jinxtah: I was working towards getting 10 games, and had even been buying games I didn't really want or wasn't in a hurry to get for discounts I didn't really think much of just so I could get that mystery game, but as I checked the front page now I see you've apparently "run out".

So my question is this: Will it get refilled, or is that it?
I'm guessing that this is a shortcoming of the promo that they didn't consider fully when implementing it. They may have documented it but many people (myself included) never noticed there was a limit on that, and while it didn't affect me it certainly will affect some people who didn't notice the limit. It's ok to put limits on things like this, but if it is not clearly communicated to people in an unambiguous way it is no doubt going to upset some people eventually. I think a much better way to have handled it would be to put a counter on the page that showed a "remaining free games" countdown. That would ultimately serve two purposes; one, to clearly communicate to everyone how many free games were left in the total free game pool, and two, as the free game availability count decreased to encourage people who wanted to take advantage of it to buy more games more quickly.

Either way though I think this time around the free game methodology is a step backwards from some of the methods they've used previously. The purpose is ultimately to draw in more people to the sale, and to reward people for their patronage, but the current mechanic will have mixed success with either of those goals, and now it certainly will have an effect that is negative. Would have been better to not even offer any freebies IMHO than negative vibes from people who now feel bad about it. In the end, not all marketing gimmicks result in a positive experience for everyone though either. :)
Yeah, it seems to me GOG did foul up on this one. If it really did affect you, I'd suggest letting GOG know directly: https://www.gog.com/support/contact/other_questions_issues

Sorry to anybody who feels screwed over.

(But please remain considerate as I'm sure Support is swamped.)
