DaCostaBR: But they kept the name pun, his name is Wright, right?
avatar
hyperagathon: True, but I can't remember any wrightheous puns, while he is constantly using [some version of] "I get it now".

It's the adaptation of the first Yakuza game. Named Ryu ga Gotoku in Japan.
avatar
hyperagathon: 6.3 on IMDB, about on par for him. Do you like his other stuff?
Never watched anything else. I vowed not to after that one.

Trying to summarize: the game had a by the numbers revenge/clear my name type of plot, perfect for a simple, chessy and fun B movie.

The movie starts in medias res, but never bothers to go back and tell us how we got there, who anyone is, how any of the characters met, what's their relation to each other, or what their motivations are. Instead of using all it has available to try and rectify that, it wastes half of its 90min runtime on bafflingly useless subplots that never go anywhere, or relate to the main plot at any point. The main character is the only one driving the plot forward, and he honestly disappears for 30min, that's a third of the movie, while we watch everyone else just twiddle their thumbs. Miike didn't seem to understand the difference between showing elements from the game, and adapating the spirit of the game. Hopefully he has improved in subsequent adaptations.

zeogold: Ok, I just redid it.
I'll try to see if I can give you clues which don't reveal too much.

The first thing you're gonna want to do is finagle it however you can to get that yellow L-shaped block entirely into the trashcan. After you get it in there, leave it. It's going to stay there until the very end.
avatar
bad_fur_day1: Yep, I think after I've followed all the hints, the yellow block is in the garbage can, the top two "L" shaped blocks are sitting in either side area flush against the walls. The remaining green block and small blue block are sitting above the yellow one in the bin. Then it says you can finally drag the rubbish out of the top area. I can't seem to swap the yellow block in the bin with the rubbish.
Oh, I didn't actually read the hints.
For me, after I got the yellow block into the bin, it was basically a matter of rotating the blocks around so that the garbage block hugged the right wall for most of the time until I could snag it in the bottom corner. After that, it was simply a matter of trying to free the yellow block and move in the garbage.

Edit: That...actually sounds like the position you're in.
The trick is to free enough room for the yellow block to fit on the far left.

bad_fur_day1: I am relegated to ma DS at the moment. Can you guys recommend any good DS games please?

We have the regular subjects, Professor Layton, The World Ends With You, Etrian Odyssey's, Advance Wars, Pokemon. I just thought of Phoenix Wright as well, I must get a hold of that.

Not overly fond of pixelated rpgs on small screens like Chrono Trigger or Dragon Quest.

Anything else that is good? Any hidden gems?

*Also any great Game Boy Advance games for my DS slot as well please.

The only DS game (and one of two mobile games in general) that managed to be played by me at home while PC & console stayed off.

I don't know how on earth you managed it.

Any ideas on the next couple of moves? To this point is no problem. So now I can move the rubbish out of the top and move the purple block into it's place? Does that sound right? I have managed to swap the rubbish with the red "L" block one time aswell?

You're on the right track. Yes, first make the garbage swap places with the purple block. Then work it so that the purple block goes back into its original place and the red block goes to the top. If you succeed in doing that, the solution should present itself to you.

Okay thanks, I'll have a few more tries with those new hints. I might be able to get it.

If you're still having trouble or have any questions on the other puzzles, let me know.

If I still can't get it I will, thanks. I'm usually so good with geometry puzzles, they are totally my specialty, but that one stopped me dead.
999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors - In Progress Mini Review

It seems like a combination of the style and characters of Persona, the gameplay and puzzles of Professor Layton, and the Saw films. I love Saw.

Basically meaning characters are put into life and death situations and have to solve puzzles to survive.

Worth mentioning that this is one adventure game where the puzzles actually make logical sense. That is a rarity.

Somehow managed to run right into one of the best on the DS, and probably one of the most interesting on any platform. Very recommended you put it high on your list so far, it mostly gets excellent reviews.

I did it Zeo! The rubbish bin puzzle! After a month. I assumed you had to fit all the pieces perfectly up the top, but I wasn't quite managing it, I needed to swap the purple and red blocks around at the top so the green one fits in perfectly. You can also do the reverse with this puzzle and put the green block in the bin, it's geometrically the same either side.
Dementium and Dementium II are two FPS games I would highly recommend getting. They are basically survival horror first person shooters. Dementium II has a way better save system.

Also, I suggest Radiant Historia which is an RPG that deals with alternating timelines and affecting each one with actions from the other.

I also suggest Hotel Dusk and Last Window which is the sequel to Hotel Dusk. They are detective type of games that revolve around story and character interaction.

For action games, I would definitely suggest Ninja Gaiden DS. It has a lot of the soundtrack from the original Xbox game and in perfect quality and the gameplay is a lot of fun.

The Legend of Zelda games for DS are also worth checking out.

Hey-hey! Congratulations!
Nothing better than that "Aha!" moment when solving a good puzzle.

A few of my favorites :

DS :
- Advance Wars : Dual Strike
- Advance Wars : Days of Ruin
- Castlevania's (all 3 are worth playing and excellent, especially Dawn of Sorrow)
- Super Mario 64 (this should need no explanation)
- Age of Empires and Age of Empires : Mythologies (Don't expect the PC game, but still good strategy on-the-go)

GBA :
- Advance Wars 1 & 2
- Castlevania (Again, all 3 are worth playing and excellent)
- Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission
- Zelda : Link to the Past
- Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (puts hair on your chest)
- Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
- Tactics Ogre
- Sword of Mana
- Phantasy Star Collection
- Shining Force
- Virtual Kasparov
- Chessmaster
- Super Mario Advance (all of 'em. The numbers on the GBA ones don't directly correlate to the actual NES/SNES ones, but there's basically SMB 3 and SMW for starters)
- The Lost Vikings

I realized the Digital Root of 999 equals 9.

9+9+9 = 27, 2+7 = 9

Freaky, I know.

bad_fur_day1: Ah yes, I remember jotting that one down when I saw it a fair while ago.

I wish I could find some Phoenix Wright games to play. I might have to get them shipped.

omega64: Don't it's a trap, Dark Spire is so difficult/grindy at the start that I couldn't be bothered even though I love te Etrian games.
eh, the combat is super easy in TDS. you do get the crap beaten out of you if you try to build a balanced party, instead of having a fighter in front in full armor tanking everything but randoms aren't much of a threat until like floor 4 or 5, by which time you should have that extinction spell that 1-2 shots every encounter and you should hopefully making progress on multiclassing everyone as a mage so you have as many casts of it as possible.

Some of the floor puzzles and figuring out how to progress can be unintuitive at times though.
