Nicole28: Exactly. So far, GOG has sold all games DRM-Free. Which means all single/non-multiplayer portions of a game must be runnable without any internet connection, or it can't be put on here for sale. No Man's Sky should be the same, or else it will be a grand litmus test of this.
Immoli: "It's not DRM if it's only multiplayer..." the hoop-jumping has already started.
I wonder how long until an always online game is released on gog. I suggest would be defenders just go look at the release of Simshitty or Diablows 3, you'll get plenty of talking points about how it's not DRM when it's always online.
Nicole28: But that isn't, as there is no magical way to play with other people without connecting to the internet. Until such technology arrives, then it's unfortunate.
Immoli: You could play multiplayer on consoles well before they had internet connections. A decade ago games regularly came out that allowed people to play without connecting to the internet. This magical technology has existed since before the internet.
http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/L/local_area_network_LAN.html I didn't even realize it was magic!
Also, please downboat me again. Best thing about posting here is how salty people get at the truth.
Don't vote on Forum popularity contests, so I wont do so due to your requests, if I disagree with what you say I'll explain my argument, without added salt, it's bad for my health, I never add salt to a meal, topic should have it's own flavour.
Problem is, you don't say anything I really disagree with, but I do have something to add.
Fully agree, an online connection, even the always online ones, isn't DRM.
That does not stop it being used as such, even though technically, you are still right. It's the intention, that's more important than the mode, and i make this as a general comment, not at No Man's Sky, specifically.
My focus is modding, which is totally incompatible with forced online store clients, and though Galaxy isn't like that, i only use the store online clients for buying the game, I have absolutely no interest in anything such clients provide.
I think even for multi-player only games, a generic one size fits all approach is unacceptable.
I expect each multi-player game to have a dedicated client, it won't ever be played by me, without such a client.
Single player games must always be offline, no exceptions allowed.
What if a game is Both?
I know of no such game, to be both, nether the SPG or MPG must be the better mode, if as I always find, one is actually the main mode, the other becomes wasted dev time, and I have no interest in that bloat, i want the real game, and prefer the devs, make that main mode better, by dumping the marketing bloatware.
Even if you can find that balanced game, there's no excuse for the SPG mode to connect to the net, none at all.
So to me No Mans Sky must be playable without ever going online, the naming planets crap can go to hell, i don't give a flying avatar, about that bogus rubbish, it would become a no sale issue.
My steam Profile is private, so no-one can confirm this, but it's just the SPG game I play.
The only online thing I'm interested in, is Star Citizen's Persistent Universe, that is true multiplayer.
MMO = Ultima Clone = SPG story, many play the single player main quest, then end Game?
WTF how does it get to an endgame, the SPG is over.
PU=NO SPG story (Squadron 42 is that), no main quest, if I follow your path, I see what you did, dead enemies you killed, are dead for me as well, I kill other living Foes,
The Persistent Universe, is the "Dungeon Master" for each players main quest, what you'd call living a life on earth.
the world time never waits for me, i must live in the present, not reset the time for my benefit.
The potential gets my juices going, no online games has ever done that for me.
Star Citizen also has a dedicated client, no store rubbish would cope.
So though I don't mind having the option to link online, make it required, and I rebel.
DRM is not my reason for liking GOG, i can play every game I buy DRM free, in exactly the same way I can without buying, I can crack that trash, and have no issue doing it when I actually buy the damn game.
GOG is my choice for the offline installer, give me that, and any online sections, can get lost.
Force me online and I have a really big problem, one solved by never buying the game.
I don't pirate those games now, but I do that by choice.
So DRM isn't the real issue for me, Store clients and online SPG's are my problem.
That problem exists, whatever label is stuck to it.
