Loved the tactical aspect, an RPG would just be boring since there is an abundance of anime RPG's. I loved the first game, sorta wish it relied on randomization more, for me the plot wasn't that interesting but the gameplay and concept of an XCOM-like anime game in a WW2-ish setting was great!
Seems like wasted potential, if the game was focused more on factions with different weapons and art styles I think it'd add some replayability due to the diverse characters and settings. I'm not saying 'go overboard with it' but i've always loved getting attached to RNG troops since their surviability depends more on me rather than the story. Also, losing those said units and continuing is very emotional, especially if you've name them. Could you imagine how cool a game would be where there were like 4 or 5 factions on a world map (sorta like Mount and Blade) and you could select one, build up your anime troops, fund into upgrades and grow attached to your anime tactical military as great wars occur? Alliances and goals would be drawn and you'd simply play as a cog in the machine of a greater conflict, rather than a mary-sue who goes through a preplained story arch? That'd be cool! But meh, it's just another JRPG now...
