227: Aren't they also releasing a PS4 version of the first game? From what I can tell, it's basically the same thing that released on Steam awhile back, so it might send a pretty clear message if fans buy that and not this.
What they want to do is cash in with an easy port, there won't be any message from the fans when they're charging an extra 10€ for no reason at all.

In one week the ps4 version sold 20k in Japan, and this was the version that comes with the demo of V:AR...

227: Hadn't heard about that one, but it sounds like a blessing in disguise. Square-Enix games are a pale shadow of Squaresoft's, and some kind of episodic, DRM-asphyxiated Chrono Break mucking up the canon with FFXIII-esque "storytelling" (*insert dry heave here*) is something I'm glad never became reality.
I think it could be worth it for the soundtrack alone, if nothing else.
This kinda sorta sucks big time. What's going on in the head of these executives? "Hey, Valkyria Chronicles outdid our expectations on PC! Let's make a new one then, except nothing like what sold!" That gameplay without tatctical mode was bad enough, and then everyone takes out swords and starts duking it out... it's like they're making a mockery of the thing. It may be best to consider Valkyria Chronicles a standalone, ignore the sequels, and hope for decent new IP.

I tried FF type 0 a little while ago, it was horrible. Making an HD port of a PSP game is not a bad idea, but those extremely high fidelity characters with zero animations or facial expressions in cutscenes stood out soooo badly it pretty much killed it for me, if the lack of good keyboard controls didn't already.
It's Diablo II mania, again.
You can switch Diablo with Monster Hunter.
I don't mind action RPGs but it does not seem like "Valkyria Chronicles." The settings and story seem better since the original was preachy up its own ass with social justice themes and what I interpreted as the demonization of Northern Germanic peoples and the canonization of... well let's not get into that or what I interpret as winner's narrative or winner's history.

This seems like a "wait and see" type of situation. I don't have a PS4 and it will be a long while before it comes out on PC if it ever does so I really don't know what to think of it at this point. The switch over does not seem like it fits the franchise but whatever. I can understand making adjustments but not like this.

DaCostaBR: This is like if you turned XCOM into a cover based third-person shooter. Thank God that never happened.
Could also be like a turned into a [url=https://www.gog.com/game/heroes_of_might_and_magic]tbs strategy. Who knows.
A total genre change is one thing and can be interesting, but this looks more like an Actraiser 2 kind of scenario where the game is largely the same, only minus the parts that made the previous games special in the first place.

Kind of funny that 20+ years later, developers are still making the exact same mistakes.
After thinking about it, this is how I believe Sega people went:

People like aRPGs, let's make one! But, original IP is risky, isn't there something on storage we can use? Oh look, VC, we're not doing anything with it anyway and people seemed to like it last time! Let's go with that!

The funny part is that they just need to see what happened with SquareEnix.

I don't know, sometimes i just wish some company in japan just released something like Lost Odyssey to test the market...
I personally quite like the Valkyria Chronicles current formula. About the only thing I would "manipulate" would be a less puzzle feeling in the gameplay extenuating the tactic's element. However; I am a tactics loving gamer.
Loved the tactical aspect, an RPG would just be boring since there is an abundance of anime RPG's. I loved the first game, sorta wish it relied on randomization more, for me the plot wasn't that interesting but the gameplay and concept of an XCOM-like anime game in a WW2-ish setting was great!

Seems like wasted potential, if the game was focused more on factions with different weapons and art styles I think it'd add some replayability due to the diverse characters and settings. I'm not saying 'go overboard with it' but i've always loved getting attached to RNG troops since their surviability depends more on me rather than the story. Also, losing those said units and continuing is very emotional, especially if you've name them. Could you imagine how cool a game would be where there were like 4 or 5 factions on a world map (sorta like Mount and Blade) and you could select one, build up your anime troops, fund into upgrades and grow attached to your anime tactical military as great wars occur? Alliances and goals would be drawn and you'd simply play as a cog in the machine of a greater conflict, rather than a mary-sue who goes through a preplained story arch? That'd be cool! But meh, it's just another JRPG now...

Honestly, I'm not so sure Square learned anything either.

Oh, i know, between the simple mashing button combat and the jpop band i don't know what's worse in the new final fantasy...
Aren't there other games in Valk series? Can't they just bring those to PC?

VC2 and VC3. Would love to see them ported on PC.
