Orlim: 1) It is gift card like. Meaning you tend to give away money for no return.
JMich: 1) It's not a gift card. It's a pre-paid card that you can use in quite a few places. So you don't give GOG money, you add money to an internet wallet (kinda like paypal, without paypal). In countries other than Germany, you can still combine multiple paysafe cards, so there isn't any wasted money.
Combining fixed sum cards with standard retail prices being odd decimals. Please do some math about the likelihood of you not turning a null value donation to the company offering the service. The majority of consumers using paysafe will inevitably donate some sum of money to the paysafe benefactors.
Orlim: 2) It caters to a low income niche population. Yes you jobless kiddos and folks with more than three maxed out credit cards are low income.
JMich: I know that PaysafeCard is something my father would use because he doesn't want to give any card details over the internet. He still had a Lloyds credit card with a limit of ~200 pounds for that very reason and he hasn't been to England for more than 30 years. Neither jobless, nor kiddo, nor someone with more than three maxed out credit cards.
I am glad that your father is aware of the threat that identity theft is.
Being a witty man as your father is he can surely see how awful the returns of paysafe venture is. Visa and Master often come with fraud protection nowadays so there is even less reason to be overly cautious.
Orlim: Visa and Master are available world wide. Germany, U.S. to India and further. I don't see the point in this.
JMich: Quite a few people from Germany have posted in the past that they had trouble getting credit cards, can dig up those posts if you want.
I am from Germany and can tell you that 99.9% of the group described by you will be minors. Credit cards in Germany are almost as available as in the U.S. which means that you can get them at the local Kiosk next to a bag of Gummibears.
Orlim: You call yourself "GoG" and now attempt to cater to minors who happen to grab moms or dads cash?
JMich: No, and no. They call themselves GOG, and take a look at
Terms of Use, specifically the "Age Restrictions" part.
Indeed. That's exactly why I am so critical of this move.
Orlim: I'm sorry I have to be so negative about it.
Please offer me a good argument to actually persuade me to believe that this is a reputable move.
JMich: People asked for it, and people can use it to buy games. It doesn't affect you any way.
It does not affect me one bit, true. I still care where consumerism and this website is going as I have enjoyed and supported it for some time now.
I do not enjoy the sight of already very limited people being picked dry of their last cent that could have been better spent in say... education, food or helping their parents pay bills.
Thank you.
