Dark_Ansem: How exactly is Beamdog responsible for the takedown of the Diamond edition when the decision is entirely of GOG's?
avatar
Aemenyn: What.

Dark_Ansem: Which part of my message was unclear? Is English your first language?
You are claiming backwards upside down that GOG is responsible for the take-down of the Diamond edition (wow, GOG suddenly own the rights to beamdog now, just because beamdog sold a game here!), except GOG is responsible for nothing. Only the product creator/IP holder/publisher/ have the right to decide whether their products will go on or off for sale at the store. GOG does not interfere (and cannot) with any general product decisions. I don't even know how you can say something like that with a straight face, if you aren't new to gaming.

@Topic
I almost got excited there for a minute, as from the way it's worded, it does at a glance, seem as if all owners of the Neverwinter Nights Diamond edition will get the upgrade for free. But alas, it's not the case.

zlaywal: Thanks for the reminder. I will back-up up my nwn folder, especially The Bonus & The Soundtrack. What is telling from the Steam page, the expansion and the Soundtrack are to be purchased separately if you don't have the premium edition.
Might be but since the OST ect. is part of the Diamond Edition which you obviously already have in your library I don't see why the bonus section should be changed at all. It's a different product already payed for. I remember the outrcry when GOG removed soundtracks and such from the bonus section and I also remember that GOG promised to not do this again. I mean, legally speaking, the bonus section was part of their offer for which people payed for so I doubt it would be perfectly legal to change it after they already received the money. At least a refund should be possible in such cases.

Completely correct, Nicole :)
Own the original, love it, looking forward to seeing the remaster.
I already own the EE version on Steam, and I enjoyed playing it again, although I haven't put as much time into it as I'd like to. I haven't dabbled with the workshop stuff yet. I decided to buy it on Steam for two reasons:

1.) Workshop
2.) Beamdog's releases have always run without the Steam client.

I know everyone likes to hate on Beamdog, but I've really enjoyed all the previous EE versions. The hate has always bugged me a bit. Beamdog releases their games DRM-Free (including on Steam - lot's of games that are DRM-free on GOG still use CEG on Steam - not Beamdog). Beamdog supports all three platforms that GOG supports. And Beamdog generally keeps their games up to date on GOG. Surely there are other companies more worthy of the hatred?

Spectre: How does beamdog get their hands on the rights to these games? How much did it cost them?
Just going to leave this here:

Linko90: [...] As for the code, it should still work.
It'd be appreciated if you'd check, and gives us a definite answer, as a number of people may find themselves with a useless gift code on their hands. Cheers.

It's not hate so much as envy. A business model where you buy an ip, sell it for years making lots of cash, then re-release exactly the same product, with a name change, for more than you were selling the original. It's gotta be one of the great cons of the decade. the only better scam is always online mass data capture by the big companies.
Will have to see if any ip is coming up for sale soon, have some savings doing nothing in the bank, might get into "enhancement" myself, Loom, £30 a pop anyone?
Judging from the screens on Steam, I'd be hard pressed to identify any enhancements...

It's a bit more than a name change though. Admittedly, with NWN, there are less improvements than Beamdog's previous EE releases. NWN already worked on Linux, and it already worked at higher resolutions.

Beamdog's EE games are definitely expensive for what you get, but you get more than most of the naysayers are willing to admit.
It is sad, that game's store page will vanish. With all reviews, which had useful info (mods and other info, for example).

At least it can be preserved for people (to be accessible through "Store Page & Reviews" on game's card), who bought the game. People put some effort to write those reviews and i think it is wrong to send them to thrash bin.

Linko90: This Thursday (October 11th) will see the release of Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition. This means we will no longer be selling the original Neverwinter Nights Diamond. Neverwinter Nights Diamond will be included in the Enhanced Edition as a bonus.

Grargar: I wish you good luck on the release thread.
Same here. I think I might hide in an underground bunker....or a "Vault" lol.

Perhaps, I know apparently there was a claim of beamdog on multicore machines using a lot of processing. Me, i don't have time for it, will always return to my old copy. Although wasn't as big a fan of NWN anyways, never got on with main character + pawn, or the long (might be 2 rather than 1) load times.

Still, I am going to stick with Beamdog being the modern day equivalents of the bloke who sold London Bridge.
