nes400: -all games here are perfected in a easy user experince
-PRICES are very affordables to anyone, not to mention during SALES
-community is great
-some of games are like digital collectors edition
-no need for extra patches to find, all in one "good old install"
-ost even in flac format which i know many people are really ocd about that but hey its better than mp3
Well Steam has also Sales, also has communitys and some are really great ,especially the groups other gamers created and most soundtracks are also offered as FLAC nowadays.
Plus with the market and children going crazy over weapon skins, weapon crates (cs:go) and trading cards you can make a laughable amount of money by just playing games. I once made 1,64€ while playing CS:GO for about 2 hours :D

To be honest i always thought this "gog vs. steam" thing kinda silly.
As a consumer why can't you just sit back and say "hey, Steam has some great things to offer, Origin has some great things to offer, gog has some great things to offer, so i just use them all and grab the best offers from each service" instead of this childish "oh steam sucks so bad and gog is the saviour of pc gaming" (which isn't different to all the Valve fanboys who are stuck in Gabe's big fat ass praying to him as the saviour of pc gaming)

I think gog wouldn't survive if they tried to compete with Valve/Steam
Valve already made billions with Steam and continue to rack in more money than CD Project could ever dream of making. All the big publishers (except EA) love Valve, love Steam, love DRM and the total control they have with Steam. There's a reason you don't get those games here on gog and why so many retail pc games enforce you to use Steam.

gog should stick to their own audience group: Continue to bring back classic games at a affordable price, sell great indie games and if a bigger publisher wants to sell his games here so be it.

tfishell: Here's my view: we need both GOG and Steam for competition. GOG shouldn't have a monopoly either.
avatar
nes400: i wouldnt mind the monopoly thing :)) if their price are fair like now
Right away things might be okay, but if GOG has a monopoly or quasi-monopoly, then similar to Steam the past half-decade or so, eventually they might rest on their laurels. Only a week ago did Steam finally get a refund system, and that may have been partly in thanks to GOG scooping up a portion of Steam's business and Steam "firing back".

It's possible that, thanks to Steam, GOG was forced to renege and start doing "deep discounts" and other "fair prices", which some people love and some people hate. Personally I like it.

dont want to start an argue here.. but steam doesnt allow very much control of your games files you have purchased and gog lets users choose the options they want for basically everything

EA - worthless company with microtransactions and stuff
like i mentioned devs follow same flock ideeas drm + dlc (get more money)

if people werent purchasing this stupid stuff like dlc it wouldnt exist in the first place (i like the ideea of expansion better)
GOG have renounced long ago the ideea of only classics

the option which i look forward to Galaxy is the reverting version patch of installed games
i remember playing darksiders 2 on steam and it had the notorious problem/bug with a portal and it was a game breaking thing you couldnt progress and you had to wait for new patch to be released.. but on the other hand the game worked on a previous version users who havent update it reported on forums

the difference between Games for Windows was that no-one used it. Steam has (at this exact moment in time) 8.000.000 users online....

Not to mention that developers did not like to use GfWL, but they like the Steam framework (which is even free to use). So good luck!

Valve sees GoG as a competitor the same way an aircraft carrier sees a rowboat as a threat. To be fair, they probably view all the competition like that.

Yeah, but until gog reaches a position to even dream of having a monopoly the cold hard facts are something like ssteam - 90% and gog - 10% of the marketshare.
So it's pretty obviouos we all should side with gog and slowly bring the balance to the universe :).

yeah but steam was released in 2003 >>> 5 years before gog so of course they have bigger user database
gog made their first moves with aaa titles, galaxy and the site will gain popularity with Witcher 3 also
