I have to confess, when this thread started I thought, 'after two posts they are going to run out of scenes'. :P
They're like children. I cannot pick just one.

Post your favourite hacking scenese from movies/TV shows.
I could only make it about 45 seconds into the video before I puked in my mouth a little. :) Being an _actual_ firewall developer, I just couldn't bear to watch any further ... I just kept saying "no... no.... no... no NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :)

adaliabooks: It's amazing how your typing speed seems to be the most important thing when hacking in pretty much all of those... who knew all those years of Mavis Beacon typing would make me a 1337 hacker? ;)

ZFR: Remember you also need a computer that beeps. Without beeping, no amount typing will help you.
Preferably while opening dozens of random windows rapidly.

Sielle: Matrix Reloaded, Trinity uses a know (but patched by the time the movie came out, but fit with the timeline) SSH vulnerability to get into the power plant.
Well, I bet you can still find unpatched versions of ssh today.

Anyway, another vote for this one.

If social engineering counts as hacking, lots of good examples in "Catch me if you can" and the Ocean's series, too.

In the nearly 50 years since, no one I'm aware of has ever come that close to a realistic portrayal of hacking.
Indeed. The truth is, if Hollywood put one of their fancy cameras behind a skilled computer programmer while they were attempting to hack into computers over the Internet, it would more or less put everyone watching it completely to sleep. It would not be action packed, suspense filled or anything else that the film makers would be wanting their viewers to experience to build suspense and tension or provide any kind of dramatic effect because it is pretty much completely devoid of drama or any kind of suspense or emotion generating experiences really. It'd be an incredibly dull movie.

Having said that... *JUST ONCE* I'd like to see someone make a movie that portrayed computer hacking properly anyway without any drama or stupid dialogue that makes no technical sense, just to be able to say out loud "wow, someone portrayed hacking correctly, I never thought I'd see that in a movie" to all my friends who wouldn't hear me because they'd have fallen asleep. :)

You must use "start counterstrike" a lot at work then. Maybe "start Call of Duty" at times too.
Fun facts at 1:36
1. "GPL" as in GPL.
2. an uplink interface! Actually uplink interface was copy-pasted from jonny mnemonic.

"Fast Times at Ridgemont High" when he is in the bathroom fantasizing about Phoebe Cates coming out of the pool and...

Oh wait, that the Most accurate whacking scene ever.

Oooops, my bad.

DarrkPhoenix: No entry yet from "Sneakers"? For shame.

From what I remember, much of Sneakers was close to the mark. No back flipping over laser grids, rather learning to walk really, REALLY slowly past a Passive IR detector.

It could be done, Either as a montage with a clock showing the time taken, or coffee cups piling up, or as a side section to something else more action packed (but with realistic dialogue)

This is actually not a bad idea. Anything to signify passing time...
I'd love to see script writing for TV shows and movies to be shown in such a realistic way in a TV show or movie sometime. :P
Isn`t "WarGames" the most realistic Hacker movie at all?
Now back to reality:
