Crosmando: Morrowind is an absolute terror if you're the type of player who likes to loot/steal everything that isn't nailed down, just because there's so much lying around in boxes and stuff you can loot and sell. Because you can only carry so much before becoming encumbered, you end up doing rounds back-and-forth to the merchant, and then when the merchant is out of gold to pay you you need to find another merchant to sell all this crap to.
Gentle "spoiler" if you always prefer to figure out all the kinks yourself...

But about the Morrowind looting, which ends up quite satisfying indeed (IMO), but may indeed take bit of patience to fully empower.

So here goes:

Always be equipped with Divine / Almvisi intervention - and spell from mysticism (I think) "mark" / "recall." This could be a piece of jewelry, scroll or learned spell.

The intervention spells will take you to nearest temple / shrine, normally equals "bigger town + traders".

Having marked the spot you are looting in, you will teleport back. And repeat as needed.

As the loot does not disappear, I tended just to dump my pickings from a given location - and sell more of them next time passing by after the merchant had replenished money. Gnisis temple entrance always has mountains of my loot!

And "feather" in alchemy..? Alchemy system in Morrrowind is one of the best ever, highly vital for hard encounters, and always tends to be in my major skills.

I admit that building up your CHAR into the state were looting is a joy takes bit of effort, but I find it all the more satisfying.

In the Skyrim, I see myself resorting into quick travel because I have a definite dislike of superfluous horse riding, where it is but a gimmick. I am not saying take it away, but leave the intervention etc spells, and good alchemy for the rest of us, pray!

mikopotato: If only they have a mod for Morrowind with isometric view.
It would be pretty nice. Like a whole new game.
You'd constantly get shot by enemies that are out of sight this way, but after altering the distance of their perception, it would be pretty cool.
Afaik, this was not considered when expanding the drawing distance of the new Turok remake, so there you're the one-eyed king now.
This wan't considered either when porting Cannon Fodder 1 from Amiga to PC and you constantly get sniped by bazookas you would see in the original version but don't in the one sold here, rendering the game unenjoyable for me.

You know, it's kind of a toss-up. It's nice to play first person perspective, but having a gestalt of the game may spoil many of the random encounters.

Klumpen0815: Haha, I completely got lost trying to get and sell everything.
Everywhere I walked there were some hidden caves with stuff in it and I had to loot like a maniac since it was my modus operandi in RPGs back then.
Next time, I'll try to ignore as much as possible and see something of the story.
See below if you want any tips n tricks from a Morrowind (eventually) happy looter! :-p

I cannot even imagine my first Morrowind play through - I was a relatively naïve RPG gamer then, it was probably in the first three titles I ever gamed, BG2 having been the first.

But there was clearly enough to motivate me to persevere, and love Morrowind. And RPG of course.

At least in Morrowind you can cast spells in the dungeon to teleport you to a religious hub to sell your stuff off - once you have the equipment or spell casting power, of course.

Having to crawl back out from the dungeon in Skyrim seems like stupid nuisance from excessive simplification. And then I would guess your horse can carry the burden to the nearest trader, but boy, do I miss "intervention" spells from Morrowind!
Mark and Recall after every dungeon delve, to that weird rich scamp in Caldera :D.
Apparently there was an even richer mudcrab somewhere that I never found.

Yeah of course,
I imagine it would be like Icewind Dale II, Baldurs Gate sorta perspective.

..... actually it is like baldurs gate (screams around in the hallway)

I have been seriously put off games for sucky camera angles - Drankensang (the original, next one was greatly improved) that had potential to be more than a niche item comes to mind.

But the 3rd person view by Bethesda is not that painful, or why is it to you?

Rendering such huge game-world into 2D is certainly not a commercial exercise, and would not technically work with e.g. leviate spell that has a definite 3D vector. I think? My geometry studies were superficial, and some time past.

But if you cannot fan Morrowind, I at least hope Eternity, Original Sin or near future Torment will be or have been right up yer alley.

No, you don't have to put up with companions, which makes it far superior to Baldur's Gate, at least to people like me who like the mostly lone wolf gameplay of timeless masterpieces like Fallout 1 or ... Fallout 2.

I'm still considering to buy UnderRail since it seems to fill exactly this void.

dewtech: Morrowind is too streamlined. Daggerfall was a bit better, but I suppose as Morrowind was your first beth game, mine was Daggerfall. Nostalgia goggles.

TStael: I smile at yer post because you must have a "dagger" to pick with Morrowind to make such a put down!
As we Finns, freely put, say: "Someone fancies the father, someone else would fancy the son." (Yksi tykkää äidistä, toinen tyttärestä)
I like Morrowind aswell, but Dfall has a soft spot for me.
We, Estonians have a similar saying: Kellele ema, kellele tütar. (very very freely translated: Who fancies the mother, who fancies the daughter) Although you could just take your translation and change the father and son to mother and daughter.

Hey! I love Morrowind to death. I kissed her good night every night.
Of course i love isometric view games like you mentioned above too..
Just thinking of a "what if".

Did you say "future Torment"? Is there a re-make in the works true to the game with updated graphics?

You know, I remember the tirades on the Sierra Online forums when they came out with King's Quest VIII, The Mask of Eternity, people used to the 2.5 dimensional point and click games were accusing Sierra to selling out to the 3D genre. While my hardware was struggling with it at the time, I saw that they were trying to keep up with every other publisher out there putting out 3D games.

However, I still love the point and click adventures, I think the presentation needs to fit the story, not a publisher's decision to go with the status quo.

Rusty_Gunn: MW was my first Elder Scroll as well & it is the one I'm playing at the moment. I never even heard of the franchise until my brother came over one day basically saying "You gotta try this game" and he handed me a MW GOTY to have along with a disc of "essential mods" hemade me so for me Morrowind is brotherly love.
Mine was a derivative of a freshly discovered PRG fandom - and the source the same Brussels second-hand store where I know I got Divine Divinity, but I dare not claim it was on the same go.

The best friend of my then boyfriend had Baldur's Gate 2 (BG) laying around in his Helsinki apartment, hard box and with a number of CD's. And while the boys gossiped and drank beer, I though I would give them the space and occupy myself maybe productively (while also drinking beer of course, and listening with half ear).

I thought everyone enjoyed themselves immensely that evening and night - and trying to find titles as engaging as BG2 has been the leitmotiv ever since.

With both Morrowind and Divinity 3-5 Euro second-hand purchase I was successful indeed.

No need to back-pedal that much, unless it suits yer sardonic sense of humour. In which u go potato-boy/gal!

I hug a lot in real world amongst those I love to know, but also - you might have to witness my "I hate this trans music, and will twirl a finger in the air (not middle) and demand to be taken as one with some street cred."

Hating Morrowind is preferable even, if it will result in the "kiss of life." Don't you think?

I admit I spent my Skyrim intro period frantically trying to find a way to switch unto 3rd person camera, and thinking "I must jump... no levitation spell then... fouk!" So I see your point, were it meant seriously. Maybe it was.

In case u become bad-ass modder, with isometric rendition of Morrowind in your to-do list - I'll be happy to watch that space. :-)
