To be fair the China time limit for children on gaming platforms is not much different than this law:

I'd say its different as at least last I checked there was indeed plenty of valid studies backing up how harmful social media is where as there is way more studies pointing out how good gaming is for a person rather then it being harmful and most studies that say gaming is harmful usually is confirmation biased data studies rather then done in a more scientific manner

Edit;note I don't agree with either case of banning or limiting time but atleast it seems the social media matter seems to have far more validness compared to the gaming matter

Given that mostly US Americans are the ones here railing against this very tame attempt at virtue signalling environmental concern (which is a valid concern), the American buffalo might be a more apt metaphor for driving an animal to extinction?

Nah, there'll be no need for that, because you are very much in the minority with your poorly-worded arguments.

Well China already censors social media so maybe it considers it a solved problem and gaming an unsolved problem.

I agree though, online games have rules unlike social media.

Thing is China has the gaming limit last I heard for both online and offline gaming..where as the censoring social media as far as I am aware is usually anything they consider' 'wrong think'' or that is being even remotely critical of the Chinese government

You're right, this is just virtue signaling. We need to maximize pollution so there is no future, as opposed to having a bleak one.

It's pretty much the extremist agenda:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerationism

Also flights taken by game studios are excluded from the calculation, so yeah, it could be argued to be virtue signalling.

Purchased Goods & Services
The studio was able to provide proof of purchase on hardware that was used
during the development of the game. The studio used two service providers
to aid with some aspects of development. While we were able to get data on
hours worked and their location, we were not able to get primary data on the
service providers’ precise energy consumption.
Apparently using cloud services doesn't count towards CO2 calculations either - and that is likely to be a huge part of CO2 production for a development studio - because the ratings only have to be 50% verifiable in the first year and Midgard itself has only been running for a year, so all their ratings are only 50% verifiable.

Maybe this promo is premature and we should come back next year?

Was that meant to be sarcasm? because even though I make poorly made arguments, I still know ALOT on what is going on. haven't you notice that a lot of games are pure shit nowadays then they were 20 years ago? that's because they inject this woke shit in our faces. they put minority ideologies and amplify like a megaphone through propaganda to make them feel emboldened and bigger. This is pure cultural Marxism and it needs to be rooted out of western society.

Funny how many of those games on Midgard's site only have "Buy on Steam" button even if they're on sale
on GOG right now.

Literally mentions "transportation" in their metrics.

Where is the carbon footprint and why are flights not mentioned?

As you might have noticed, the actual carbon footprint is not included in the assessment. We decided not to include the emissions number in the assessment because we want to focus on encouraging a change in processes than obsessing over a number. Including carbon emissions will automatically put bigger studios at a bad light even though they might have implemented more sustainable practices than smaller studios.

Most game studios usually have to travel to far away places, usually to get in touch with publishers and other backers that can finance the development of the game. Therefore, it did not feel right to punish such a crucial part of the studio's business. After all, there will be nothing to track if the game does not get the financing it needs! However, this does not mean that flights are not including in the accounting. It will be, but it just will not affect the rating of the game.

dnovraD: I mean, of all the things to get your knickers in a twist over, "We use solar panels" is certainly putting clown makeup on the high horse.
Midgard is the ones on their high horse. Mitigating your own gaming emissions has nothing to do with solar panels. Following this to the logical conclusion you should not game at all. BUT since you're on a gaming site and all, I'm sure you use a very low powered PC to help the environment. Raspberry Pie to save the earth!!!

This is PR stunting plain and simple. Want to save mother gaia? Plant some trees or clean some garbages you see thrown about outside. These sort of false concerns efforts do almost nothing to help anyone.

I hope we have purchased enough carbon credits to balance out this dumpster fire. ;)
