So, I've heard two, and although they seem decent, they sound as if they're still releasing songs from Death Magnetic, and that was what, eight years ago? Ok, they can still throw riffs together, but it just doesn't seem, you know, heavy. I hate seeing stupid publicity like "Wow, it's like "Kill 'Em All" all over again!" Uh, not, not really. Thoughts?
OY, last Metallica album I bought was the Black Album.
Just listened to "Hardwired" yet. And it sounds... boring. Tame. Nothing wortwhile compared to the recent efforts of Slayer, Sodom or Kreator.

And by god, the drums sound awfully artificial. Like Lars playing a 150$ e-drum kit from the Toys'R'Us christmas sale.
I'm still waiting for a new album by the Wyld Stallyns.
I enjoyed that Moth Into Flame, a nice Loadish heavy metal song. This is a sound I wish they would stick too. It suits them a lot more then trying to be thrash metal.
I didn't know they are releasing a new album. Just listened to Moth into Flame. I don't like it. Well, it sucks that a band that i grew up with turned to be something... i don't know... something not good enough, at least for my taste. I don't mind when bands change their music & sound through the years -- for example Opeth, which are one of my favourite metal bands, made such a great turn with their latest albums that i can't stop listening to them, great stuff -- but Metallica turned into something that i can't really listen to anymore. I consider Load to be their last good album (that awful artwork though...).

Mine was St. Anger, which was also my biggest mistake since i didn't like it. I listened to it far too many times than i care to admit in hope that it will grow on me, but i still haven't found anything good in it. And i was given the choice to listen to it when i visited my local recordstore but i didn't do it.. Dumb move.
Just making conversation
Inside my head
Talkin to the blackness
I might as well be dead

This leaked snippit of the lyrics to the new song "Just Making Conversation" by Mettalica shows that the veteran bangers have'nt lost their touch.

More at 11.

I'm not wearing any pants.
I admit to buying every album up to Garage Inc. but, after several moves, the only albums I bothered keeping were Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning. Kill 'Em All was alright, but far too rough around the edges for my tastes.
Bob Rock ruin Metallica for me the same way that Steven Wilson ruined Opeth for me.

How? Metallica, Load and ReLoad re-focused their song writing. Saved us from more bloated shit like And Justice For All which funnily enough happened on Death Fridgemagnet. An awful album.

Well, it all comes down to individual taste i guess; And Justice for All is an album i enjoy listening although the sound is awful (especially the boomy bass) but it's nowhere near the quality of the previous albums or Load for me. ReLoad never amazed me... Not a bad album, not a very good either although it has its moments. Still prefer it to St. Anger or Death Magnetic though.

As for Opeth, I don't think mr. Wilson ruined them -- quite the opposite in fact. Even though they changed quite a bit through the years, especially if you compare their great first album (Orchid) to Still Life, Watershed & Heritage -- they never ceased to amaze me. Not everyone has the same opinion though, especially for the latest 3 albums, which is totally understandable. Maybe 10 years before i would have been let down too, who knows...
I don`t get why people think that Metallica is sooo great.
Sure, there are 2 or 3 songs that are not bad, but most of the songs of Metallica are mediocre or even crap.
Didn't like Hardwired, but Moth to the Flame was OK. Hopefully not the album highlight, though. I saw the video and it was meh, which is a shame, considering how good All Nightmare Long was.
Short derail - but I still prefer Metallica as interpreted by Apocalyptica, headbanging and cellos:

I like the two new songs and I liked Death Magnetic well enough even if it's not quite as good as their classic material. I always think of something that Katon from Hirax said about Metallica - "They're doing just fine but people overestimate them because they are Metallica."
