nmillar: Now take a look at Number 2.
I remember when Green Day were good. Or at least calling them good wouldn't have got you any arguments or derision. Makes me feel old...

Navagon: LOL

So you trade industrial metal's answer to pop with death metal's answer to pop and call it more metal?

I quite like them both, but they're distinctly entry level. Sort of like a bike with stabilisers.
Children Of Bodom is death metal's answer to pop? What?
How about some fictional bands

I'm not criticising either band or you liking either of them. I just found it to be an odd choice as an example of what metal is supposed to be given both band's more commercial leanings.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. But I just found it funny that you criticise one person's choice for not being 'true metal' then cite Children of Bodom as an example of what true metal is despite CoB's more commercial focus.
HUNTRESS - Eight of Swords

and a very, very, VERY special greetings from the 4 horsemen of rockapocalypse: Bad News - Warriors of Genghis Khan

COB sounds like metal. COB is metal. Static X, the Static X songs I was thinking about at the time, do not sound like metal. I considered Static X to be industrial. It is as simple as that. :) I never said COB is "true metal". I was wrong though. Static X is not industrial. Static X is Nu metal.

Static X is industrial metal. Sometimes considered nu metal, but not by me. But unmistakably metal either way. The main difference between them and regular industrial is that they're guitar-driven and something like KMFDM or Nine Inch Nails aren't (even though guitars might be a regular feature in both). There are lots of different kinds of metal out there. It doesn't have to all sound the same. Personally I think it's better for not.

If you want a good example of industrial metal then check out Fear Factory. After all they're commonly credited with starting it all off.

I know Fear Factory. Good stuff. I used to be a metal head in a group of people that didn't accept Nu metal as metal. I think that is why I got confused. My definition of something is not THE definition. Now I see this. Yes, Static X is belongs to the metal category that is recognized by most people in this world.

There's hardly anything more boring then sub-genre or category wars.... the only thing that matters is, if it rocks.
