Hello, I have recently created a question in the Witcher forum to ask about a game specific question. I have discovered the solution now but I cannot mark my own post as the solution :-/

Is this deliberate or do I need to have enough reputation or similar to do this?

It is deliberate, as marking a post as a solution gives the owner of the post a rep boost. An obvious exploit if you could mark your own post as the solution - not that anyone cares about forum reputation anymore these days, but the protection is still in place.

I see, might be unfortunate for those have found solution for their problem themselves.

It's not actually unfortunate. Even when a solution is given, sometimes it stops working later. So the original solution isn't as important so much as the topic for anybody looking for possibilities. But that's life in general, too, isn't it?

I've noticed when people claim to have solved their own problems but do not detail how they did it, and then others come along and ask why details weren't given. But the OP never returns to say.

I don't see why you couldn't.... HOWEVER you can't get a rep boost from it.

Two (or more) members could enter an agreement to post questions and solutions in tandem. If it were possible to delete a post, this could even be done whilst removing the evidence …

As others have already mentioned - you can't.
And yes, it kinda sucks, but is also understandable - for the very reason, WinterSnowfall has stated.

I recently also had a "Question"-thread. And I also found the answer to my question on my own.

My first impulse was to just select one of the other comments in the thread as the solution, but then I decided against it, for two reasons:

1) None of these comments gave the actual solution.
2) It would have been unfair, to randomly choose one comment over the others.

So, that thread will also remain "unsolved".
It's a pity, but also the fairest solution.

However, the thing, that irks me much more, is when someone opens a "question"-thread, then gets an actual answer (or answers) that solves the problem - and then doesn't mark the (first/most) helpful comment as the solution.

I mean...why set it up as a "question"-thread, if you don't intend to return to it, or to honor the fellow GOGger, who helped you?

A very valid point, but I doubt GOG will ever change how it works now. Not unless they replace the entire forum at one point that is. I have this naive belief that people have better things to do with their lives, but of course you are right :).

Didn't we have a thread where a staff member marked their own post as the solution?

Or something similar?

I can't find it right off because google is picking up on all the "No posts in this topic were marked as the solution yet" that are in the forums.

You forgot this bit: I don't recall the exact thread and what happened so I went looking. That's why I had a disclaimer on it.

The reason why I went looking was because I believe it developed into a rather lengthy discussion on the topic.

One could even imagine creating multiple accounts, to self-aggrandize …sorta like Twitter claques & Facebook cliques.
