dtgreene: If you load a saved game (or start a new game) then press Alt-F11 immediately, you will warp to the dungeon exit, which is good if you get stuck somehow. (This assumes the final version of the game, which is what you *should* be playing.)
timppu: So, whenever I am in a dungeon and reach whatever I came there for, I save the game, load the game, and Alt-F11 to exit the dungeon? No need to try to find my way back to the dungeon exit, or use that Teleport beacon spell/thingie that I see some also mentioning?
I presume this is the latest version of the game, and then some.
Yes. That key combination was made to address the situation where a player would fall out-of-bounds into the void and was unable to escape (though you will want to cast a Slowfall spell first to avoid falling damage in this case; Levitate won't help in this situation), but it also works as a shortcut to leave the dungeon you are in. It's also great for skipping the tutorial dungeon.
Teleport effects are still useful even if you are using this "cheat". You can set a portal by the questgiver, and warp there after accomplishing your task, getting there in 0 in-game time. Useful when you're on a deadline (which is pretty much always in this game). Or, you can choose a base of operations and set the portal there, and use it when you need to rest. (Hint: If you are a Sorcerer, or have the trait of not recovering spell points when resting, the Mage's Guild can restore them for you, so that would be a good portal spot.)
Kardwill: Aaah, Daggerfall. I remember jumping right through the roof of a dungeon, and then walking "on the roof", with the dungeon layout twisting like a snake around me. A pecular experience. Happened quite a lot, too. ^^
timppu: Another one I've noticed that if I run stairs up and jump constantly (I do those all the time in order to improve my running and jumping skills), at the end of the stairs I make some kind of mega jump, flying dozens of meters in the air. Itsa me, Maaario!
The same sometimes seems to happen if I merely climb some small obstacle (e.g. the side of a coffin, in order to climb inside) and press jump at the same time, sometimes I end up in the ceiling, and seem to remain there for awhile until I move forward somewhat.
Kardwill: Never finished this game. Not because of the bugs (I was used to them), but because I misplaced a quest item (some scarab, I think?), and never knew where I put it (I may have sold it to some random merchant? Dunno.)
timppu: I almost failed the main campaign already in that same "bring the letter from the princess to the King of the Worms" quest. When I got back to the princess, she wouldn't speak to me, and the letter from the KotW had disappeared from the inventory.
First I thought it was a bug, but googling for it, many had had the same problem, and it was simply because I didn't meet the 30 day limit for the quest even though I started it as soon as I got the quest, and got back as soon as I was done.
The thing was, my fast travel was set to "cautious mode", which meant that I pretty much wasted that 30 days for traveling to the dungeon and back to the princess. It just didn't occur to me that the quest time could accidentally be wasted on the travels. Also I read somewhere that if you fail that particular quest, then you fail the whole main campaign.
Fortunately I have a habit of keeping one save game before taking a new quest, so I had to do the quest again from that, and just use "reckless mode" for fast travel. Fortunately the quest was very easy and fast to perform once you knew where the King of the Worms is in the dungeon. At first I searched the whole dungeon fighting countless fights (including quite hard pink vampires), but the second time I think I had to fight only two zombies and a couple of bats before reaching the King.
One other trick: Travel to your destination in reckless mode, then once there, travel to the place you are in in cautious mode. This will fully restore you and, if it's night, make it day. If you take damage in sunlight, you will need to be quick about initiating the second fast travel if you arrive during the day, but I believe you can then make it night this way to avoid sun damage.
