Third Rock from the Sun, Season 1, episode 16: "Dick like Me".

INT. UNIVERSITY CLASSROOM

Dr. Solomon: "Now, let's have a look at Einstein's boundary conditions according to the theory of relativity. Einstein - a Jew - never could have made this breakthrough had it not been for the earlier work of Copernicus - Polish - or Tycho Brahe, the unlucky Dane from Prague. Which brings up another question. How many Puerto Ricans do we have in class? Any Puerto Ricans? Leon, what are you? You don't have to answer that. Dutch. I love your tulips and your dikes."

Leon (baffled): "Oh, thank you."

Dr: Solomon: "However, I turned your people down because of the silly shoes. OK, no Puerto Ricans? Any Latinos in general? Anyone with Latino information? Anybody?"

Pitman: "Dr Solomon, with all due respect, I find this offensive."

Dr. Solomon: "Pitman, you won't be left out. I'll get to the Asians."

Pitman: "Why are you suddenly so interested in what everybody is?"

Dr. Solomon: "I have to know. It's important."

Pitman: "No, it's not."

Dr. Solomon: "Yes, it is."

Pitman: "No, it's not."

Dr. Solomon: "Yes, it is."

Pitman: "No, it's not."

Let's be totally honest. What you actually want is to know which games are made in the United States so that you know which ones to boycott. .... <snip>
No, I want the option to be able to prioritise European developers. The USA is only one country that I don't want to support. Its added to a list of others who are similarly dreadful.

I use CDKeys (a Saudi Company) for any game on Steam, but once again, I'm only buying European games even there. That way I minimize any profit going to non European firms. I have been a loyal Steam customer for over 20 years. But recent events have made me prioritise Europe over any other region,

GoG is a European storefront - hence why I buy almost exclusively from here instead. As for the 'big' games, especially Sony stuff, these are boring and derivative to the max and made for a casual market. So no loss there. Nintendo? I'm not an under 11 year old so I'm not the target demographic, so no loss there either.

Not a bad idea on the spreadsheet, but will make the suggestion to european-alternatives.eu - we have the latest thing in Europe, its called the World Wide Web (made in the UK btw).

edit -- Forgot to mention that if a game comes out of Japan, localization to English is typically done in the United States if it is any good.
Those voiceovers are far from English. Bloody awful is what they are, I have to switch to another language even if I don't speak it just to be able to play. That's another topic for another thread.

Way to keep that moral high ground there :)

CDKeys is a key reseller, which means that not a single penny from the games you buy there goes to the developers or publishers. Every pound and penny you spend goes directly to this UAE-based company, nothing goes back to the developers, whether they are European, American, Palestinian, Israeli, Japanese, or from anywhere else.

So, congratulations on supporting a country rife with human rights violations, one known for imprisoning and torturing political prisoners, and for repressing freedom of speech, press, and assembly, among other things.

Proud of you *two thumbs up*

What ever respect you had, you just lost it But I guess saving money is more important than your morals and principles.

And I think by that, I have had more than enough of you and your doubble standards

Different from the USA how?

Anyhoo... back to the subject. A tag for games made in Europe, please GoG.

And the word of today, kids, is "Deflection". Now repeat after me "de-flec-tion". Well done.

Silly sausage.. and the the word for today, children is "exaggeration". If I have to break that down to syllables for you you are in the wrong set.
I'm all for boycotting the US and a few more awful countries, but realistically, it's not possible for gog to create a category of European-allied developers. It's too complex, you'd need to thoroughly check the developers, the publishers, the engines and all other assets to make sure they are all from Europe or other countries which have similar views on the current politics.

But if anyone would be willing enough to create a spreadsheet of games/devs/producers etc. who are based in countries supporting basic freedoms? I'd for sure look through it before buying any games.

I've already seen a few images on social media sharing which companies are US-based and European alternatives. I think if you really want to support Europe/Ukraine/allies, this is the way. Don't expect companies to do the work for you, cause let's be honest, it's not gonna happen. Do the work - hopefully with help from other folks - and you can actually make a difference yourself.

I think he proved my point that this is really about boycotting the US only.

I think that comment went over your head. I was specifically referencing a specific spreadsheet that exists to help innocent men not encounter awful things in their games, like a female player option. My favorite part is how they can't make their mind about Civilization -- some versions are safe while other versions have what they consider to be historically unimportant female leaders.

Also when it comes to avoiding the United States and games, another thing you need to be very concerned about is localization. A lot of localization gets outsourced to the US regardless of where the game was originally developed because it's something that the US really excels at.

Not using the United States for localization is how you get things like "All your base is belong to us."

I thought female protagonists are ok? As long as they have big boobs and zero personality or humanity, of course. I haven't seen this spreadsheet, but I can only imagine what kind of games it has :S

Didn't knew that the CERN was in the UK...

Breja: Just have every game's country of origin listed on it's page. Nothing "meaningless" about that, no bias, just simple factual information.
I like that. GOG has already held sales based on the country of origin of games. That is, a French sale, a Polish sale, etcetera. Having the country of origin fits in GOG.

Shannqa: It's too complex,
There is a way. Where does the company that sells the game pay its taxes?

Also, see what was written above: GOG seems to know where games are made, already.

Well of course porn games area always fine. You notice that when people do complain about these games, it's always about the girls body. It's never things like how some of these games are just weirdo rape fantasies.
Funny how every american desperately tries to make it appear like "everyone hates US(A) and only wants to boycott US(A)", while their own country has started the whole thing by "Buy American", which way predated the current (and also the previous) "America First" fad. But honestly, that problem will solve itself. If the USA keep slapping tarriffs in everybodys face who's not genuine american, the reaction will have to be to tax american stuff just as badly, and therefore prices alone will rule out american products for everyone outside the USA. And, contrary to a GOG reaction, this will happen within the year.

But but but the terrible kink-shaming! Everything's fine as long as it's porn, isn't it? Those are just games, which have absolutely no influence over anybody's psyche, right?

Yeah... That's what I believed a few years back ;) Cheers!

Correction, created at CERN in Switzerland by Sir Tim Berners-Lee (a fellow Brit) - Knighted because of his creation, celebrated at the UK Olympics and generally loved here in the UK.

Whilst I may want to boycott USA made goods and services, as a result of current events, and a tag for that would help. That isn't the overall intent at all.

It's giving consumers an informed choice only, I spend a crazy amount of money on videogames. It's my passion. Steam, as a USA based company is losing money from me already.

GoG has much to gain by making a tag for European made games, as I am likely (as others may do) to purchase a game simply because it originates in Europe. Doubly so if the developer is Ukrainian!
