Hullo everyone. Thanks for all your inputs. I feel like this topic would crop up every now and then. I think at the end of the day, we will just have to agree to disagree. But I appreciate everyone's passion for the topic. You guys are all a great bunch. Special shoutout to Timboli, who I had a very special discussion on this topic before :D
Also let's be nice to each other and no name-calling please.
To be honest, if there was a way to change the thread name, I would gladly do so. Unfortunately that is not possible.
The decision to include external parties have been there since 2017. So really... everyone is kinda late to the party by uh.... 7 years :D
The rationale for it is
here But for everyone's sake, I'll re-explain it again here. There were alot of cross site promotions early in GOG's life, with Facebook promotions, CDProjekt Website Betas, other company's newsletter signups etc. These were hard to keep track off and I rely on the community here to update this thread for those kinda promotions.
There was no real good way to classify those, and they were
easily and widely available. That was the main criteria for deciding to include them into the original list.
Now Amazon Prime have been giving these GOG codes sporadically at first, but we are starting to see more and more of it over the last 3 years. To me, yes it requires purchasing an Amazon Prime account before getting access to those codes. But it is
easily and widely available.I don't have to jump through some hoops, nor do I have to participate in some scammy survey, nor are there limited keys to give away.
An Amazon Prime subscription giving away GOG codes is not dissimilar to past GOG promotions where you had to buy a certain amount on GOG before being entitled to free keys, or having to pre-order a game, before getting another game for free on GOG. Both type of transactions involve purchasing something, before getting GOG keys. Both of these types are tracked within this thread as well. It is easy for me to track Amazon Prime giveaways, and so I decided to continue tracking that as "in conjunction with external parties".
If the list gets longer, I might have to create a separate category for Amazon Prime Giveaways.
So let's get back to the original topic and be nice to one another. Appreciate all of you!
