GOG doesnt show it for me - either its removed or access is somehow censored.

Edit: And Steam shows this:

An error was encountered while processing your request:

This item is currently unavailable in your region
Edit 2: And on Itch.io at least the game page doesnt have region based censorship.

Thanx for the offer but redeeming on GOG unfortunately requires Google captcha which I have issues with.

Whenever I see "Part One" these days I can't help but think "aka Demo, but we don't want to call it a demo". Same for "Prelude".
I really hate Marketing that can't call something like a demo a demo for some asinine reason.

That is a sound argument. However ... lately it has become a habit, that patreon or other community supported games - especially when it comes to VNs, are being split into several "seasons" or "parts", this way they can be released on platforms like GOG which only very rarely accept games that are in development. The description text of this one says, that it contains four chapters.
Still ... it definitly is no complete game, so I don't see it as free game at all.

I think it could be "more than just a demo".

This "part one" has each own paid DLC: https://www.gog.com/en/game/the_art_of_south_scrimshaw_part_one and it says "After being in development for over three years, South Scrimshaw Part One released early last month to an unexpectedly enthusiastic audience." so I think "part one" is just first part of the game series, not just first chapters of first game (aka demo).

I don't think it's a demo, but just half a game with an open ending, continued in part 2 / chapter 5.

This has become typical for VNs lately when they want to release on major platforms to attract a bigger audience.

Yes, that's possible, but "being in development for over three years" makes me thinking that it can be also just like "Eye of the Beholder 1" in Eye of the Beholder trilogy - why would someone work for three years on something which is only "an introduction"? Even with open ending it would not mean it is not a complete game itself.

I think we need somebody to play this game to get the real judgement. :D

I found the itch store page for this game, which has is development log. It looks like the game is his side project as the developer is an illustrator and animator. Some of his past credits include the title drawing sequence for The Grand Budapest Hotel and graphic design work for the tv series American Horror Story. I'm going to assume this developer isn't some rich guy with no day job such that South Scrimshaw is his side project while he does other work to pay the bills.

I think that this game is going to be not much different than some of the Neverwinter Nights modules that I have played that are released in part as chapters. Some of the better ones took years to complete and were released in parts which each module being it's own chapter.

Anyway my cursed weekend extended to the point of loosing my save file for what I was playing such that I had to start over completely. After that, I'll give South Scrimshaw a try and report back. :)
