neumi5694: Not saying it's a good thing, but it is the publisher's decision.
GOG can't decide in their name where to sell what.
Kane and Lynch? Germany got it's own version, not available anywhere else. On the other hand you can't access the international version from Germany.
https://www.gogdb.org/products?search=kane+lynch+2 Check both links. One (1911154018) won't have a store page.
If you live in Germany, it's the other one.
What is worst here is that both have the same name and share the same readable ID. In the case of Wolfenstein 2 they added "German Edition" at least, so one knows what he gets.
This is how it
can be done, but it's not GOGs decision.
You want to blame someone? Blame the publisher.
I'm not new to this game by any stretch, so fully aware of dev:pub:distributor/platform relationship and their dos & don'ts, regional versions, restrictions, etc. Maybe it would benefit you to know a little bit more about this particular case?
Naturally the blame lies with the publisher/IP holder who at that time was a chinese corp that took it upon themselves to alter those old arcade classics. Instead of making these changes in their region only, they pushed the sneaky patch globally without any patchnotes, on all platforms afaik. However I mostly blame myself for buying it here as it turned out... although at the time of purchase, both games were still sold in their original state so I couldn't have known. Hindsight is 20/20 after all.
Inconsistency comes on the gog part though, whether you like it or not. AoF2 allows rollback via galaxy to the original version, BS2 doesn't. That's what I've asked for a couple of times already, to get rollback for BS2 too (or any other game really), despite support's stubbornness to acknowledge the censorship as an issue. Wouldn't you know that steam version actually allows the rollback? I don't think that I have to explain why that is a positive thing for community. Makes you wonder about the whole pro-gamer notion here, making games last forever, etc.
P.S. I really do feel deeply for all the Germans living under those silly ratings, censorships and neutered versions. Imagine if their version suddenly became forced worldwide, I mean it would be only fair so Germans wouldn't suffer alone. Chinese did it exactly that way after all... New games and other media coming out in China etc have all the sensibilities set straight and checked by the committee ofc, so everyone knows they are safe experience.
Oh and one small flashback: When SW: DF2 Jedi knight came out, I bought it in Germany and I had to whip up my ID to prove that I'm 18+... It appeared to me that it had to be easier for youth to buy some hardcore adult material there than a Star wars game. Those were the days, I remember it fondly - thanks for that reminder, I appreciate!
