Good idea, but I'd like to see a worthy successor to Doom. Guess I'll be the one to make it...

Wouldn't that be Doom 2? =P

When I say Doom, I almost always mean the classic dooms (incl. Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom) as well as their source ports.

Crosmando: If I contribute to the KS, can you guarantee (or at least try your hardest) to have the game released here on GOG?
We'll do everything we can, and GOG once even tweeted about Doom, the Roguelike, so the chances are pretty high!

Smannesman: Look aight, more roguelite than roguelike IMO though.
There is nothing rogueLITE about this game.

* turn-based
* grid-based
* permadeath
* random environments
* pure ASCII mode :)

Just because the animations blend together smoothly when quickly pressing buttons is purely a cosmetic upgrade. We follow most of the dogma of the Berlin interpretation :P

Looks very promising! I hope it'll turn up here.
low rated
Sigh, another dime a dozen kickstarter trying to appeal to 'hardcore' and 'retro.' Do gamers look like a bank to you? I mean I hope everything works out, but your team to my knowledge hasn't produced anything so I have no reason to go to trust what your capable of or what you can do.

I see you also aren't doing anything different other then 'making doom' in a different genera, and whats the deal with unnecessary swearing in the trailer (even know it's only once)

If you want to look at good games from new teams that went through early acess as a business model there is Massive Attack- Halcyon 6, Stygian Software- Underrail and Killhouse games- Doorkickers.

If all goes well I look forward to looking at your game on it's own merits but I don't do kickstarters and the trailer doesn't really do anything different or be unique and the business model only has disadvantages.

Maxvorstadt: Oh, a sequel to the Alien Shooter games?

omega64: Turn based.
So no, not even remotely. :P
Hmmm... You know, I love the DoomRL game, and I love other rogue-likes. But the XCom style and 3D for some reason bug me. Maybe it's because I don't know all what's going on, or what all the options are, or it has too many effects going on, or a dozen other things.

I can't say I'm interested. Then again if it's a single person vs a group, that might be better and work, we'd have to see.

Yeah, there's a oversaturation of effects, unfortunately this is straight out of alpha so all testing features weren't toned out (it was launch or starve for us at this point). Too much blood, too bright muzzle flashes, and too dark levels.

However, just to be sure we're on the same page in terms of turn-based -- control of the character is exactly the same as in DoomRL - one keypress is one move. However, if you chain several commands in a short amount of time, the animation system blends them together, instead of forcing you to wait until each one of them finishes. This is ONLY a visual effect, and doesn't happen if you play the game at a regular pace. One of the commenters was on the stream, so he can confirm that.

We mentioned XCom because many people had a hard time grasping the turn-based aspect, but it seems it only made things worse -_-.

Hmmm... What's another game that's turn based but involves controlling individual or small groups... FTL is sorta in there. Hmmm...

to be brutally honest, I got some XCom games in the mid to late 90's when I got Mechwarrior 3 or 4 as part of a promo pack, couldn't understand it one bit so I never played it. Which I guess is too bad.

But regardless we'll have to see how things go.
I've been playing DoomRL for years. I admit that it took me a while to get used to the change from ASCII to tile sets, so jumping to a full 3D rendering might pose a problem. However this is a problem I'm more than willing to work through. Can't wait to get my hands on this.

Still you made us realize yet another thing we need to communicate better, and you have my thanks for that :)

Yep. Looked astounding real-time, but was in fact turn based.
I call it "Hidden Turn Based Game". :-)
Actually, here's a cutout of the stream that I did after I was showcasing the tech of the game to a friend of mine. It's tech-focused, but it's a decent 6 minutes of overview.

(yes, it's extremely dark, we need more lights, and twitch encoding doesn't help)

Hope that helps :)

I really hope this at the very least reaches it's target. These guys have always been really dedicated to their projects, so I highly doubt that they won't do this one justice after all the time they've already spent on it.

On a related note, it appears that ZeniMax might be going after DoomRL? https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/12/02/doom-roguelike-zenimax/
Weird timing considering how well known it is.
