rtcvb32: Hmmm... You know, I love the DoomRL game, and I love other rogue-likes. But the XCom style and 3D for some reason bug me. Maybe it's because I don't know all what's going on, or what all the options are, or it has too many effects going on, or a dozen other things.
Yeah, there's a oversaturation of effects, unfortunately this is straight out of alpha so all testing features weren't toned out (it was launch or starve for us at this point). Too much blood, too bright muzzle flashes, and too dark levels.
However, just to be sure we're on the same page in terms of turn-based -- control of the character is exactly the same as in DoomRL - one keypress is one move. However, if you chain several commands in a short amount of time, the animation system blends them together, instead of forcing you to wait until each one of them finishes. This is ONLY a visual effect, and doesn't happen if you play the game at a regular pace. One of the commenters was on the stream, so he can confirm that.
We mentioned XCom because many people had a hard time grasping the turn-based aspect, but it seems it only made things worse -_-.
