New game reveal, or new DLC. I'm not really a fan of Ubisoft, far too few games and all, BUT...when they had a similar event recently, they did a lot of game reveals, DLC, and a sweet game giveaway of Watchdogs 2. People really only care about what's new, or what they can get free, from these "events". Thanks to Covid, it's not like they can go to conventions and tournaments that have booths and swag, and face it....EVERYONE loves swag. The three main reasons to go to things like that are: 1- ROAD TRIP! (everyone needs a vacation. sadly right now, everyone is forced to having "stay-cations".) 2- PARTICIPATION!- (there's always some event even bystanders can get into, whether it be a mini-tourney, a side-show, a food court, a pool or beach with games and events), and 3-SWAG!!! (everyone loves free stuff, whether it's a signing or photo op, brochures, free t-shirts, etc.)
But other than that, really, very FEW people like to sit and watch somebody else having all the fun, especially when there's other things they could be doing or watching. MTG:Arena Twitch games give codes away for free cards, Ubisoft kinda does, but the speed and the fact that one code is only good for one single person, kindof sucks and makes it useless, one of the reasons I stopped watching their event...especially with all the errors they had on their one batch of giveaways for everyone.
Sure, there's always a FEW people that enjoy watching other people play old games and have tourneys, but those are usually people who already own and play those games and are hoping to pick up on some tip or trick that gets stale as soon as everyone starts doing it... the majority want to get some sort of satisfaction for watching! Hate to say it, but GOG has dropped the ball on a lot of things lately, and the only reason Epic hasn't pulled ahead is the huge ball they dropped when they advertised a Conan game giveaway for a month, and the day beforehand they pulled it with zero explanations, and decided to "sell" it at a later date. CD Projekt Red also dropped the ball, when they pulled Witcher 3 during Epic's big sale (people could have gotten it for $5.00, and while it may be a great game, it was a stupid play for a game that's already 5 years old and has been patched and modded a couple dozen times, ESPECIALLY with their big new game hitting the market! They also made sure GOG sold it, but not for less than $15... greed, really....and made certain everywhere else still sold it but only for the original full $50 price tag! Even Playstation isn't that horrid to their customers!)
SO....why am I posting all this? because GOG TEAM claims they are TAKING NOTES...... and it's time developers and sales teams remember that their product is entertainment, and moreso, it's digital and therefore less permanent and less valuable than the physical copies we used to be able to get easily...if they want to try something new, GREAT!!! I'm all FOR it! BUT- don;t leave the CUSTOMERS behind in order to promote a channel full of over-hyped e-celebs that we care little about! THEY get PAID to play, while the majority PAY for the 'privilege', so yes....we DO want something in return for wasting time watching them...EVEN if it's just a NEW GAME REVEAL, at LEAST it is something!
TAKE NOTES! But also, USE them, GOG TEAM!
