We'd like to invite you to the official GOG.COM Twitch channel this weekend where we're hosting a set of online games and competitions. Join us and have lots of fun!

Who?
3 teams - Team TableFlip, Team RageQuit, and Team HeadDesk with a special appearance of Jessie Cox.

What?
9 tournaments with one goal: to win fame and glory (and prizes!) in games like Worms Armageddon, Unreal Tournament 2004, Project Zomboid, gaming trivia, and more.

Where?
Follow the GOG Games 2020 on the dedicated event page and GOG.COM Twitch channel until August 16th.
New game reveal, or new DLC. I'm not really a fan of Ubisoft, far too few games and all, BUT...when they had a similar event recently, they did a lot of game reveals, DLC, and a sweet game giveaway of Watchdogs 2. People really only care about what's new, or what they can get free, from these "events". Thanks to Covid, it's not like they can go to conventions and tournaments that have booths and swag, and face it....EVERYONE loves swag. The three main reasons to go to things like that are: 1- ROAD TRIP! (everyone needs a vacation. sadly right now, everyone is forced to having "stay-cations".) 2- PARTICIPATION!- (there's always some event even bystanders can get into, whether it be a mini-tourney, a side-show, a food court, a pool or beach with games and events), and 3-SWAG!!! (everyone loves free stuff, whether it's a signing or photo op, brochures, free t-shirts, etc.)

But other than that, really, very FEW people like to sit and watch somebody else having all the fun, especially when there's other things they could be doing or watching. MTG:Arena Twitch games give codes away for free cards, Ubisoft kinda does, but the speed and the fact that one code is only good for one single person, kindof sucks and makes it useless, one of the reasons I stopped watching their event...especially with all the errors they had on their one batch of giveaways for everyone.

Sure, there's always a FEW people that enjoy watching other people play old games and have tourneys, but those are usually people who already own and play those games and are hoping to pick up on some tip or trick that gets stale as soon as everyone starts doing it... the majority want to get some sort of satisfaction for watching! Hate to say it, but GOG has dropped the ball on a lot of things lately, and the only reason Epic hasn't pulled ahead is the huge ball they dropped when they advertised a Conan game giveaway for a month, and the day beforehand they pulled it with zero explanations, and decided to "sell" it at a later date. CD Projekt Red also dropped the ball, when they pulled Witcher 3 during Epic's big sale (people could have gotten it for $5.00, and while it may be a great game, it was a stupid play for a game that's already 5 years old and has been patched and modded a couple dozen times, ESPECIALLY with their big new game hitting the market! They also made sure GOG sold it, but not for less than $15... greed, really....and made certain everywhere else still sold it but only for the original full $50 price tag! Even Playstation isn't that horrid to their customers!)

SO....why am I posting all this? because GOG TEAM claims they are TAKING NOTES...... and it's time developers and sales teams remember that their product is entertainment, and moreso, it's digital and therefore less permanent and less valuable than the physical copies we used to be able to get easily...if they want to try something new, GREAT!!! I'm all FOR it! BUT- don;t leave the CUSTOMERS behind in order to promote a channel full of over-hyped e-celebs that we care little about! THEY get PAID to play, while the majority PAY for the 'privilege', so yes....we DO want something in return for wasting time watching them...EVEN if it's just a NEW GAME REVEAL, at LEAST it is something!

TAKE NOTES! But also, USE them, GOG TEAM!

oh no
The perfect opportunity to announce that Risk of Rain 2 and Spelunky 2 are coming to GOG soon... amirite?
Anyone thinking this is preparation for Baldur's Gate 3?
Why are only 16 games on sale, this is smaller than the weekly sales

My favorite teams, Team BelowDesk & Team NoOneBiggerThanMouse not there?

Hmm, What'd be the special appearance I'd like to see ... Sid Meier playing organ, a huge perhaps?

Wait who's winning prizes ? The people playing the games or the people watching the stream ?

Likely because IP holders only allowed them a small selection to put on sale atm.
(contrary to what some might think, GOG can [afaik] only/mainly put games on sale when rights owners allow it)

Likely it's the players only.

I'm guessing it's viewers getting the prizes, as GOG's twitch used to do regular giveaways a while ago, seems to be the most reasonable assumption. Especially since the "teams" are mostly made up of GOG stream team members (and some other people I have no clue of who they are, probably "e-celebs" from twitch), who generally already get "prizes" whenever they want, since their "payment" is in the form of GOG getting them the games they want to stream, in case they don't already own them (which, in most cases, they do).

[EDIT] Also, I don't know how they're tackling it, this year, but if past GOG Games events are anything to go by, this is NOT a "serious" esports championship with old games. It's just a bunch of people getting together to have fun, basically. So, yeah, likely it's the viewers who get the prizes, since it's not a "serious" hardcore competitive event, and the teams aren't in any way "professional".

wolfsite: Be a great way to reveal a new game by playing it during a Twitch event so I'm with you there.

Piranka: *takes notes*
I'll be honest, watching Twitch doesn't interest me personally, I'd rather watch highlights on YouTube or something. That said, maybe some sort of deals could be made where you show off "big-deal" releases some time before they release on GOG. Maybe there are reasons why GOG doesn't announce big-deal releases ahead of time - especially those high up on the wishlist or such as the recent Bethesda or Square Enix releases or Metro Exodus - (like Valve will proactively encourage devs or pubs to put them on sale on Steam or something? seems unlikely but I dunno), but if everything is signed and sealed and fixed up on a technical level, maybe like the day before the release, or just a few hours or an hour before, there could be a short reveal stream. Let people know ahead of time (like the day before the stream?) when to tune in; just, imo, try to only hype when appropriate (I assume you've been around long enough to know how to handle this ;), such as using the wishlist to gauge interest.

Or bring back EnigmaticHints on-stream in honor of TET ;)

Huh, hadn't even noticed that the games were on sale at first. It is, after all, first a list of games that will be played on the stream, and that's already a pretty large number for something like that. The weekend sale has a total of 80, split between the two "parts" of it. The current weekly sale has 59.

Larian has their own clock and such for that but I do believe it's coming to GOG and yes I'm looking forward to it, I've even put on my magic hat and wizard robe.

That's not the dedicated event page, this is.

This is not the weekend sale (though it is a weekend sale). Notice that this post doesn't even mention that the games are discounted.
The sale is incidental; the competition is what the news post is trying to promote.

This is neat, but I'm already following a Worms Armageddon Tournament. And I bet GOG doesn't host a gameshow every Sunday at 8 Eastern.
