CARICATUREKILB: I wish they had named it, 'White Room'. Then I could blast out my Cream Album...
They were going to, but the studio said it might come across as abusing the race title privilege and trigger minorities to go berserk. Stick with the 'spectrum neutral room' by Jimmy Hoffa and the Ding-Dongs. Excellent choice.
romero is an attention whore and with some luck, they won't be successful.

rampancy: I hope he learned his lesson from his experience with Shaker and its somewhat controversial KS campaign. Killing it actually left me with more respect for him.

In any case, I'll be more interested when John and Adrian actually ship their game.
I find it so sad that Shaker never amounted to anything. A sci-fi modern dungeon crawler would have been neat. :(

Also, I'm not really feeling this initial response to Blackroom's kickstarter, it doesn't seem to be attracting the right amount of attention or money. Which is sad, I do want the game to succeed.
It doesn't look like they're setting KS in fire with Blackroom either. Though I guess it all is relative, as not that many KS projects manage to make a near 100k during their first days.

Still, considering they're still under 100k, and this is one of the celebrity fundraisers, I'd say it's still a bit lukewarm overall. They'll have a fight on their hands.
I saw the weapons update on Kickstarter and was a bit disappointed. They're going for a sort of neon-light Tron look for the guns and their effects that I found uninteresting, considering the game is about travelling a diversity of historical locales.

I was hoping for a mash of guns welded together from different time periods. Instead, we get a light-saber chainsaw of some sort.

The Recode is the worst design. A grenade launcher with grenades that turn enemies on each other. I'm all for this as a gameplay tactic, but it should be a secondary weapon (like grenades often are in modern games) where you press a button to launch a grenade. As is, it takes away your ability to murder every time you switch to the gun, so it becomes an uninteresting risk to take.

Agreed, the weapons seem really weird.

I agree with you. I think many FPS fans are still unsure about it and Blackroom does not attract them. Plus, $700K is not an easy goal, even for Romero and Carmack.
I really wish he'd stop riding Carmack's name (with implication that it's John Carmack rather than the actually involved id alumni; Adrian Carmack). It's a pretty obvious attempt to gain interest from the thought from older gamers that it's a return to the Wolf3D and Doom days, when that's only partially true, and not how it's commonly taken. This has been so pronounced that John Carmack himself has had to announce his non-involvement with this project (probably due to overwhelming amounts of Tweets directed at him)

Yeah, the name "Carmack" confuses many people.
I think it is very disrespectful of people to complain about the use of Carmack's name. As a founding member of id software and an artist for many of the classic first person shooters, Adrian's past involvement is nothing to be belittled and his participation in Romero's project is a significant piece of key information for fans of the old id shooters, a/the target audience.

Yes, John Carmack is more of a media person and better known & hyped all around, but that doesn't mean he has the exclusive right to his family name. Yes, people will be confused.

The video made it very clear which Carmack is involved. And so does the kickstarter page. People who TLDR can jump to wrong conclusions and that is their own fault, and no reason to get angry.

This. Exactly how I feel about this Carmack confusion thing. I never was under the wrong impression of who was going to be in the project, though I understand the confused.

Even after watching The Return video, some people still think = [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carmack]Carmack. Those people won't change.

I'm far more excited about Adrian Carmack's involvement than I would be about John. Doom was Adrian and Romero's baby.

People seem to just associate him with Daikatana nowadays, despite him heading the development of a half dozen other incredible games before that. I can't help but wonder if that's part of the reason.

I think the hologram look is interesting. We've seen the "mash of guns from different time periods" before, but I can't think of another game with a lazer chainsaw.

I don't think the Recode is going to be a problem, if weapons switch quickly enough. Having a little bit of risk involved with such a powerful ability makes it more interesting IMO.

I have just read on their Kickstarter page that the funding has been put on hold while they compile a demo.

Quote:-

"You asked for it, and you’re getting it: a gameplay demo of BLACKROOM.

The team is at work on a demo which demonstrates the kind of gameplay, look and innovative, cool features that make BLACKROOM truly unique — the things we’ve waited years to put into an FPS and which make us incredibly excited about this game.

There’s a hitch here, a hitch that’s making us do something that’s right for the game, the team, and the community: we’re pressing “PAUSE” on the fundraising campaign for BLACKROOM to complete this gameplay demo. Simply put, this will take more time than the Kickstarter has left, so we’ve decided to suspend the campaign and launch a new one when the gameplay demo is ready. We believe, however, it is the right choice. We know you do, too. Thanks to your feedback, we know we should have included it at launch. "
