Haven't watched it yet, seems interesting and thought everyone here might wanna know.
I'm surprised anyone likes this pompous twit. I wouldn't take his opinion as anything important.

Not "everyone". I for one have zero interest in VR, PS and Mr. Sterling.

Forgive me for coming into someone else's discussion and shit all over it, but I have to agree with this sentiment.

Not the fact that Sterling has fans at all, but how many, and more importantly how a lot of them take his word as gospel.
I thought since you are fairly active in the gamergate thread you wouldn't link directly to that guy. I mean it's fine if you're a fan of his, though I really don't share the sentiment.

Sorry for derailing this further into the bashing sterling direction.

I've never really watched this guy but have seen a few of the controversies he's been in such as the current one with Digital Homicide. I haven't watched him enough to know either way but IIRC this guy uses a pseudonym for his channel. My question to those more familiar with him is, does he use the pseudonym to be in-character kind of like Stephen Colbert was on The Colbert Report, or even like boogie2988 with his crazy Francis character? Or was it rather for marketability purposes and/or to dial-down his real-life name?
Untill this thread, I had no idea this guy is such a big deal :D I've only seen a couple of minutes of his material here and there when someone linked it, and found him terribly annoying. Like I do most "youtubers" to be honest.

I don't know why he originally chose a pseudonym. By now, his real name is certainly no secret, but it might have been at least partly for a certain degree of limited anonymity to begin with. He is in character all the time though, so it might be a bit of both. It may also simply have been for the same reason many actors and musicians use pseudonyms, in that he finds it more catchy and memorable than his real name.
Woa, why so much hate for Jim? O_o

As someone who gets most of his gaming info from youtube, I like Jim for his weekly show on industry issues that no one else seems to cover. They are opinion pieces and some are quite off their mark IMO, but I really like general industry coverage where they talk about such industry issues and there are few others on youtube, and few on mainstream sites from the little I've read. I'm subbed to him for that and a contrary opinion on GG-like issues when I feel like it. I posted this one because it was the first PSVR review I saw. I'm not a fan of his opinions concerning GG-like topics, or his written reviews (although I don't like non-user written reviews at all these days). I've never discussed with his hardcore fans but they seem to have the same personality traits as him from what I've seen of their posts (ie; dismissive of certain things seemingly on principle and often jumping to conclusions without full information).

I just found out his real name and didn't know this was a pseudonym, but he always seems to be in character, even during podcasts (I saw him on TB's podcast a few times and his own once) so I think he might not be far from the persona irl.

Yeah I meant ''everyone'' as a joke, and I'm very tired of all the VR stuff as well, but this was the first I saw of the hyped up machine so I posted it :D

On topic though, he that it seems to him to be a good option if you don't want AR and have a PS4. I suppose the real clincher here is still months away, since it'll only be as valuable as the good games made for it, which may be many or none (PS Move and Vita anyone?).

Seems its not as much hate as general preference for someone else. Personally, he's good at some things and quite bad at others and I'm subbed for the good.

You could say that for many youtube "stars" like TB. The only reason I know of him is because I watch Yahtzee reviews, and that site had some links for his stuff. He is forgettable as far as I am concerned, and only gained more fame with the digital homicide drama.

The least thing I like about Jim is probably his gross humor.
But.. it's part of his style and I'm used to it by now.
It's good to have some variety, even if it's a bit weird ; )

Guess his humor does tick some ppl off. I like his work; I don't follow him religiously, but never regret watching it & tend to agree more often than not.

Probably because puberty and the "swearing is cool" phase of our lives passed.

I understand, but he is much more overtly trollish and purposely annoying than most, hence my surprise.

Of course, surprise itself is a very strong word, I do understand the sentiment. Like I said in the forum's perennial conspiracy discussion: Sterling, like conspiracy theory peddlers, is culture branding itself as counter-culture, and there's plenty of angry and frustrated people out there who want to hear someone who'll rattle against the establishment, even if they are at times self-serving and hypocritical.

That's not to say he never says anything of value, it's just that I think those are often obvious things I already knew, and I find little value in hearing my own opinion repeated back at me.
