X (2022)
Without spoiling too much, the synopsis reads as:
"In 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast find themselves fighting for their lives."

I think that sums it up pretty nicely. :D

Fun "retro" movie to watch with your wife, one of the very few horror movies these days that are actually well made and good. 6/6

The Adam Project (2022)
Very enjoyable sci-fi flick. Ryan Reynolds meets his funny self as usual, but a bit light on the story though. More serious tone than Free Guy, but a heck of a lot better than the cheap one named Red Notice ( RN is somewhat fun, but stupidly simple and rushed).
4+/6

That thing cost 200 million, which might never stop haunting me.

Pinocchio (2022)

My one word qualifier: Fake
Fake acting, fake situations, fake conscience, fake learning/redemption,
fake soul singing... fake acting mr Hanks!

Besides the wide well discussed live action matter,
there is something else that doesnt fit well but I cant exactly describe
Angles, close-ups, camera flow... Directing?

Hell, even the performance of When You Wish Upon A Star by Cynthia Erivo is greatly bad...

1:45hrs of boredom.
Yes, even switching to the Spanish dub that mitigates that fake Hanks naivety to a degree
I'll stop there

The Lion King, Aladdin, Dumbo, etc and upcoming: Thanks but No thanks!
Zemeckis, Hanks: Hey, you made it! You are on thin ice to me

Pros: The Italianization? ...Pffft, of course not! That's another Fake
The lots of new avoid warnings to me then?

Another big regret. Another big low punch to nostalgia

I watched The Mystery of the Third Planet the other night, an animated soviet film from the '80s. It's pretty trippy, but I can't help but feel it's all over the place. It's like several related shorts stitched together by an overarching plot that only seems to get on its feet in the third act, and at 50 minutes long, it sure feels constrained with little room to breathe. That said, it's some really beautiful animation and it's always interesting to see what was behind the iron curtain during that time.
The opportunity presented itself so I watched three movies that are basically the same: Treasure Island (1990), Muppet Treasure Island, and Treasure Planet.

First, Treasure Island. Since I like older movies this was fun to see Charlton Heston, Oliver Reed, Christopher Lee, and Christian Bale all in the same movie. (I am pretty sure three of those four were in the 70s Three Musketeers movie) Noticing that apparently Dr. Livesey in this film was General Veers from Empire Strikes Back was also pretty fun. My understanding is that this is a close adaptation of the book to film, but truth be told the last time I read this was during detention in fifth grade and it was the abridged version so I cannot speak to it. This was easily my favorite of the three movies, being whimsical and humorous while still maintaining a serious enough atmosphere wherein pirates actually come across at least a little bit like the menacing characters they should. For a TV movie (written and directed by Fraser Heston) the special effects actually look pretty good and the acting is pretty good. I also thought that this version of Jim was the most sympathetic of the three I saw, he's not pining about his life before hand wishing per se to go on an adventure it just land in his lap and he takes the opportunity. In spite of being an Academy Award winner, I never considered Charlton Heston a particularly good actor except for a few times like in 55 Days at Peking and Major Dundee I liked him quite a bit in this movie. He was pretty decently the best Long John Silver, I thought. Just the way he chums up with Jim feels more believable in this one. If you get the chance to watch it do so if you want to watch a Treasure Island movie.

Second, Muppets Treasure Island. It might be called something else but it says it all to just call it the Muppet one. Predictably, this one has more singing and comedy in it. Some of the humor is actually pretty good, favorite is early on with Billy Bones' death. Also, this version of Mr. Arrow is pretty amusing. I thought Squire was funnier in the 1990 film, however, and this version of Jim was not as sympathetic for me, but it's not a terribly serious movie either. I should remember Tim Curry as Long John but it's neither my favorite performance from him nor the best rendition of the character of the three. He's not bad and Tim Curry gets in some good lines all the same, he's just not got the same chemistry in the role if you ask me. That said, for the time it takes, it's easily worth watching if Muppets Treasure Island sounds good to you. Although, I liked the Muppets From Space more.

Last is Treasure Planet. This is one I wanted for a while but it seemed to go out of print until it suddenly popped up again. I grabbed it and it's pretty decent, that said it falls in the middle of these three. For one, it is simultaneously not as early 2000s as one would think but then it is. Excellent 2d animation, pretty good character design and expressiveness. All the 3d stuff is where the film shows age in the visuals. They are not too egregious but at the same time it is a little overdone in some scenes especially and it does contrast with the 2d a bit. That said, I really do like movies from this era like Atlantis the Lost Empire, Road to El Dorado, and Prince of Egypt. This one makes it into that circle but somewhat in the back, I like Atlantis a bit more still than this Disney offering. With regards to the story, this one makes some liberties with the setting but keeps most of the story similar to the first movie I mentioned. They did combine Squire and Livesey into one character, and that is a shame on the one hand but if two characters could be combined it probably was them. I enjoyed the version of the captain in this one quite a bit as well, close to the 1990 movie. There is one insert song in this one, I should point out, but it is not a musical either. That said, this version of Long John is the second best one, being believable in his friendship with Jim and being a character who never crosses from being a redeemable villain. They offload that onto another character. For even a follow up to Atlantis they do kill off quite a few characters while not quite as many of them as you kind of were expecting. Last thing I want to say, I found the ending unsatisfying. But, that happens.

Overall, these were all versions of the same story through a few different lenses and they are all fairly well worth your time. I would post links to the trailers but they don't really do any favors (especially the 1990 film) to the movies. Eh, bad trailers are their own art.

Birds of Prey - 2020

Another skip. Could have invested better my time

It's a pity a girly movie (director, writer, stars) didn't deliver enough quality
Let's see what happens next time. They can do it better
Alienoid -2022

Oof iwasnt sure whether to pass or go with it caz of earlier reviews arent that good.. but gave it a try nd trust me it's absolutely worth it.. u dont get much action but too much fun(atleast for me) id recommend it worth a watch

Note: Korean-lang only so subtitles

I don't know if its of any interest to you, but there was a pretty good tv series Return to Treasure Island back in the 80s. To be perfectly honest the story doesn't quite live up to the original, but it's still a good pirate-y swashbuckling adventure, and most of all, it has Brian Blessed as Long John Silver, and he absolutely owns the role, and the show. I really regret there wasn't an actual adaptation of the book with him before this "sequel", because he's just awesome.

The show is on Youtube, if you're curious.

I remember that watch this movie on the TV once, I found it recently on Amazon, so I rewatched... man it's a seriously underrated movie, has some nice photography and an interesting story, a good movie to watch on weekends.

Hello AnimalMother117!

"Treasure Island" is one of my favorite novels (books) of which I have several different editions and versions.
Funny enough, I did (re)watch Disney's "Treasure Planet" and "Muppet Treasure Island" recently, as well.

And I was surprised of how well they still live up to their premise. Both are a more humorous interpretation, of course. But I agree with you on the portrayal of Long John Silver in each of these movies.
I just thought while watching that especially "Treasure Planet" felt a little bit rushed, the pace of the film seems to be a bit too fast in comparison with the other two movie interpretations.
Nonetheless, still a pleasant way to pass an evening.

Kind regards,

The Rings of Power:
Just completed the season, it end up good.
The biggest problem of the series is the pacing, it's terrible, the first 5 episodes are too slow and frankly boring, and the last 3 episodes the seires start to develop and kinda rush it, you feel like those episode need a little more time.
Visually speaking is beautiful, the landscape, the cinematography, the colours... the other aspects are OK.
After the ending I have to say that I want more, looking forward to the second season, they still can fix it, 6/10.
Chrome Lords (1988)
Alejandro Jodorowsky's Dune (1976)
Return to Oz (1985)
George Clinton's P-Funk All-Star Wars: The Funk Awakens (1978)
James Cameron's XENOSTORM (1988)
and some others

Seriously, it's absolutely crazy how fast AI art has progressed this year. I can't imagine what we will witness in the next few years. There is already a movie trailer made just with midjourney (the visuals) by only one person.
2023 will mark the demise of many type of artists. It will be the dawn of the prompt engineers.

Btw, i've attached some screengrabs of my personal Terminator movie from 1979...

I'd like to read it and watch a movie as well. I enjoy watching movies of various genres and recently watched the movie "Inside Out". I needed to analyze the emotions depicted in this film https://gradesfixer.com/free-essay-examples/a-reflection-on-the-movie-inside-out/ And thanks to this source, I got ideas on how to do it. Examples always help me out, especially in tasks that are not entirely clear to me.
