Elmofongo: But the option to start the game is not there, it was above options and its gone?
avatar
F4LL0UT: What happens if you enter 'b'? That's the input that normally makes you start the game.
avatar
Elmofongo: Alright then its just that I assume it would turn off on its own after I press "Quit Game"
avatar
F4LL0UT: Yeah, as phaolo said, you can manually enter "exit" to quit DOSBox as well. GOG always appends that one to its DOSBoxed games, it's missing from SSP for some reason but it's really the only difference. You can make DOSBox automatically close itself the way GOG games do by editing the dosbox.conf in RES\dosbox. Just add a line that says "exit" at the end of the file and you're good.
I decided to redownload the whole game (its not that big of a game, 60 somthing MB takes about 3-4 minutes to download here.

I have not done that you said but I will keep it in mind if the problem persist. (Mind you I redownloaded it before you replied to me)

On of the forums keeps referencing a use of the "VESA" tab whatever that is.

VESA was a short lived graphics card slot between ISA and PCI (i.e. a stop-gap extension to ISA just for graphics cards, before PCI came out- kind of like the AGP of its day) basically the most advanced graphics option of some games that were released in a pretty small time window

Ixamyakxim: I'm curious about this one. Don't get me wrong, the game was great (and the sequel is awesome - fantastic, amazing game) but I'm not sure how well this one would hold up. I think it would take a very thick pair of nostalgic rose colored glasses for me to get into it (the look, the controls).

I think, with this one, I will stick with remembering it fondly rather than trying to rekindle the magic.
Last year I replayed System Shock(*), and played through System Shock 2 for the first time. In the end I'd say I prefer the first game to the second, even without nostalgic glasses. I just felt there were less annoying quirks in the first game, than in the second game. Overall I enjoyed the first game more, including the atmosphere. SS2 was somehow more clinical.

(*)Originally in the 90s I played the System Shock CD version, but last year I actually played the Portable version instead because I wanted to try the mouselook controls. If GOG ever releases the game, I think they should really consider adding the mouselook/WASD control mod in the mix. It really makes the game more enjoyable to play (and, well, easier, as moving and aiming becomes less clunky than in the original).
Augh, Night Dive would probably make System Shock a Steamworks exclusive if they released it.

How so?

Please remember that Night Dive works, primarily as an intermediary between DD sites and the actual rights-holders, if Night Dive has failed to bring anything to GOG that they HAVE brought to Steam I'm still confident that its more to do with the wishes of the various rights holders rather than what ND would do, given a free reign, either that or some of the titles GOG themselves may have decided to reject...

Captain obvious here, Grim Fandango is getting a remastered version, System Shock isn't (at least it wasn't announced), that's why it's getting a gog released and not because the gog wishlist votes.

There's System Shock portable which is "remastered" enough to work on new systems.
If people are talking about games they wish were on Gog, what about the StarCraft games? Now that would be wish fulfillment!

*Googles System Shock portable*

Well, that's a mod and my point was that Double Fine was publishing a remastered version therefore the game release on gog, same thing will probably happen for the Homeworld Remastered (IF they're willing to release a drm free version) and not because it's "x" positioned on gog wishlist.
Just hoping......

DNeverend: With the release of Grim Fandango approaching, I am wondering to myself when System Shock will be released? I would like to point out that the three most requested games on the GOG wishlist are:
1: Grim Fandango at 46,923 votes
2: System Shock 2 at 35,871 votes
3: System Shock 1 at 32,494 votes
I am very hopeful that since the 2 most requested gamed have been released(wish fulfilled) that the third one will be on the way in the near future. System Shock is what pulled me into gaming and since System Shock 2 I have been playing titles that have been trying to replace the best rpg shooters in gaming history(in my opinion) Deus Ex 1-3, Bioshock 1-3, a few others here and there that don't quite hit the same mark.
Please
Please
Please release the best game I have ever played!
I would like to give you my money now!
Thank-you in advance!
But, you are mistaken. They aren't releasing the good old game Grim Fandango here. They are releasing an altered version of the game called Grim Fandango Rebastard, I mean, Remastered, it is not the same thing, at all. It's like telling me watching the Star Wars with new scenes and remastering is the same as watching the theatrical release version. It is not.

^Probably why LucasArts and Disney are such a great match, and hurt me to my core.

Hopefully Night Dive doesn't get it, given their recent track record.

Who needs a remastered version of a DOS game?
Here's hoping. Both because I love System Shock 1 to pieces (and really people, the controls + interface are not that bad), and because it used the same engine as Terra Nova, and that's the one game I most want to see on GOG.
