mrkgnao: They did not unbundle games and their DLCs.
DLCs still come in the same box as their games.

They unbundled collection games (e.g. King's Quest 1+2+3) into their constituent games (in this example, 3 boxes).
They unbundled episodic games (e.g. Heores Chronicles) into their separate episodes (in this example, 8 boxes).
It goes without saying that they did it in a most inconsistent way.

The reason for the change, so they claim, is because "we" asked for it. The best "we" could come up with to support this claim was finding a wishlist entry with 17 votes on it.

The more credible belief is that it was done for Galaxy. The fact that Galaxy is optional is not really relevant, because even if Galaxy is optional, nobody said that its side effects are optional.

The unbundling is not optional, at least not at the moment, and, quoting Ciris, "There'll be no further grouping at the moment enforced by us".

Also, according to Firek, there are at the moment no plans to fix the numerous "non-critical" issues with the existing user accounts because GOG is working on a new account system, so prefers not to bother with the deployed system. The release date of the new system is unknown (but you can buy an "account pass" if you want). That said, behind the scenes some of the more annoying issues are slowly being addressed.

Hope this helps.

P.S. No, I am not bitter. I am sweet.
Thanks for the information.

I do think it needs to be clarified that previously, I downloaded for example Haegemon and it had the expansion included in the installation, now it is two separate entries along with several other games that have been divided. I have no real problem with them unbundling games but how they are deciding what is separated or not is so odd. I get unbundling games such as Duke Nukem' 1&2 and Tomb Raider 1-3 but Alpha Centauri is one entry with one downloadable file but not HOMM V as an example or Earth 2150 which has two expansions in addition to the main game, which makes it seem like it is actually three separate games due to its multiple entries and as far as I remember you needed the main game to play them.

Personally I would have liked the option to keep games together, or not since I rarely like to play stand-alone games when there are dlc that have been added. Only one game comes to mind and that is Skyrim due to the bugs from having both Dragonborn and Dawnguard where the radiant quests from the Dawnguard might force you to go to Solstheim before you are at the appropriate level and causes bugs to appear due to that. Again thanks for the information, though when things like this happen with no real acknowledgement by staff about what customers want or not since you mentioned a wishlist of seventeen votes, it makes me nervous that DRM-free aspect of GOG might be going sooner or later too, like forcing you to install GOG galaxy to download the games. (Yes, I am probably overreacting to these types of actions by GOG, but when they take these types of actions without allowing for customer feedback, and considering there are other features that have over several thousand votes but have not been fulfilled i.e. notification of games in wishlist on sale, this makes me nervous.)

Sargon: The problem of course is that the Vista\Seven\8\10 technology won't last forever and neither will GOG. Will GOG still be around when these optimized versions are so outdated that the original games will be easier to get to work?
Just boot up your favorite IBM-PC / MSDOS, configure it according its system requirements and start the game.
DOSBOX ist not the answer to all needs, there are emulators like PCem or hampa's PCE which provide a more faithful emulation. The downside is that these emulators have a more complicated configuration.

Sargon: Wikipedia images would be better than the thumbnails used now (but can WIkipedia lend them out to a for-profit company?) but they are incomplete and have too low resolution in my opinion. MobyGames game artwork are watermarked, but if they kept an archive of non-watermarked artwork, perhaps they would be willing to lend it out?
Just stick to the original scans of the boxes. If you just have your compilations CDs as a source and butcher them up, you have to invent some fake cover art like GOG provides for its customers. In addition - in order to get rid of the rating emblems and system requirements stickers, they just crop scanned covers (see Might & Magic 8 or 9 for example).

KQ3 has a mistake on the cover. It says "Kings Quest II" on it. Someone missed a numeral.

Both are wrong?

The "bonus content" is so weird now. Something like the Larry games, for example, the bonus content is the same for each one, and it doesn't matter if you are downloading just one of the games, the bonus content includes all of them xD

Larry is nice, but the grand winner is Zork Anthology, with 13 unidentifiable bonuses (see attached image) duplicated 7 times. That's 91 superlative product_bonuses.

"The Blackwell Legacy" is currently listed under T when sorted by name - it should be under B with the other games.
I'm getting really sick of keep having to reorganize my games because GOG has deemed that I want them unbundled (I really didn't.) This should have been optional because all it's doing is making a mess of my shelf and making it confusing with unbundled expansions and alternate versions of the same game using the same box art. Plus I can no longer refresh my memory by clicking on the game to see the relevant game page.
I certainly didn't ask for unbundling, but the only somewhat obnoxious title in my limited collection is Larry. Takes up too much relative space, plus I now have "Softporn Adventure" listed on its own. Way to class up my shelf, guys. ;-)

So, maybe it's time I actually PLAY my first Larry game then. Any recommendations?
I just hit 500 unbundled games on my shelf with the Star Wars Saber Bundle promo, which makes it rather unwieldy. I keep everything sorted by purchase date, so it doesn't really affect how I browse my list. However, it would be nice to have the option to group all of the games in a series under a single item with multiple download links. I really don't care about having unique box art for each title.
I really think it's very untidy, last night bought the Star Wars Blaster bundle and now my virtual shelf has multiple new entries all over the shop. It's the opposite of organised,

I attached a screen-shot, why can't X-Wing be in it's own "folder" on the shelf, with the 3 different versions "unbundled" with-in it. Same with Tie-Fighter ?. It would be much better than dumping everything in one massive list, download these last night was a nightmare. (Because the virtual shelf decided to keep re-arranging my games by name).

I only have 88 titles on GOG and already it's starting to look unmanageable. Your idea about unbundling is the PC equivalent of installing all games on the root folder of C:\ . It seems like a good idea at first (quick access) but it doesn't take long to realise it becomes unusable.

Please, give us a folders, so we can put like games together.. Thanks..

(Screenshot shows I bought 7 games, but ended up with 11 games, with 2 of the games having 3 different versions).

I like unbundling.
But there are too many games. It will be difficult to navigate.

Please allow user to organize games in groups.
The grouping display schemes should include customizable grouping, grouping by series or collection of similar games, all games (no grouping).

The shelf should not be too large. A library can have multiple shelves.
Odd. I just noticed that every "new" flag on all of the purchased games in my library that I had not "viewed" yet has now disappeared.

I wonder if this is a symptom of the unbundling or maybe work that is happening on the new "my account".

steveff: give me my the witcher 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the reseller you bought the key from used a stolen credit card
the key is revoked because of that

take it up with him or her
Can we get an option to bundle them back? Some sort of checkbox so that all of my leisure suit larrys and Tie Fighters are part of the same box set? It would definitely help with organization and cleanliness of our game libraries.
