Arteveld: Just unbundle the game forums, GOG. ;)
Reever: For some games, they really should, tbh.
I agree that many games having their own forums instead of a single forum for a whole series would be better overall, but the problem GOG would face from a customer service perspective is that you then have information for a single game in multiple locations which is even more confusing to people. They would have to ask these kind of questions to themselves while pondering doing something like that:
- Do we get rid of the old game series forum completely and delete it, replace it with new per game forums?
- If we delete the old and create new, we lose all of the existing useful content from the current forum.
- If we keep the old forum and the new, people will ultimately have to consult two locations and find that confusing and wonder why we don't just have one forum for a single game.
- Due to the tough choices we'd have to make to do this, it would definitely end up upsetting some portion of our customers if we were to change anything. Some people will like it as it is and not want it to change, others will want it all separated and to get rid of the old to avoid confusion, some will want to keep the old and the new and be upset if the old content is gone. No matter what choice we make we will upset some number of people.
The latter issue is something GOG faces with just about every decision they ever make too and is perhaps the most sensitive one. I don't envy the people at GOG that have to make these decisions because they're automatically going to get stones thrown at them whether they sit on their laurels, or whether they make changes no matter what the changes are nor their intents, no matter how much "good" they hope to do, they need to put on chain mail armour before even thinking about it. :)
