I'm actually okay with this, at least the library will show how many games you really have!! :D

Ciris: We anticipated a lot of questions about which games will get "split up" and which will stay together. We'll be releasing a (hopefully) final list of games we'll unbundle soon, in this thread, so stay tuned!

Also, as for all other questions, I'll gather them up and try to get answers to 'em as soon as I can :)
That's great! There are some good questions on page 1 =)

Arteveld: Just unbundle the game forums, GOG. ;)
For some games, they really should, tbh.

I agree that many games having their own forums instead of a single forum for a whole series would be better overall, but the problem GOG would face from a customer service perspective is that you then have information for a single game in multiple locations which is even more confusing to people. They would have to ask these kind of questions to themselves while pondering doing something like that:

- Do we get rid of the old game series forum completely and delete it, replace it with new per game forums?

- If we delete the old and create new, we lose all of the existing useful content from the current forum.

- If we keep the old forum and the new, people will ultimately have to consult two locations and find that confusing and wonder why we don't just have one forum for a single game.

- Due to the tough choices we'd have to make to do this, it would definitely end up upsetting some portion of our customers if we were to change anything. Some people will like it as it is and not want it to change, others will want it all separated and to get rid of the old to avoid confusion, some will want to keep the old and the new and be upset if the old content is gone. No matter what choice we make we will upset some number of people.

The latter issue is something GOG faces with just about every decision they ever make too and is perhaps the most sensitive one. I don't envy the people at GOG that have to make these decisions because they're automatically going to get stones thrown at them whether they sit on their laurels, or whether they make changes no matter what the changes are nor their intents, no matter how much "good" they hope to do, they need to put on chain mail armour before even thinking about it. :)

Except for very few the game forums are not really a crowded place. When you unbundle them, even more of them would be completely dead. So I don't think that it is a good idea.

But this issue already exists. I know of one example at least, which is TIE Fighter that I already mentioned.

There is a group X-Wing and TIE Fighter series forum, and then there's a separate one for TIE Fighter Special Edition. So information for TIE Fighter already exists in two forums. :S

Yes, however that's probably a horrible planning mistake rather than a reason to repeat it.

Ciris: In the first "run" of such unbundlings - tomorrow - we'll take on two shelved items: Alien Breed + Tower Assault and American McGee's Grimm.
I guess that the plans were postponed, right?

Indeed. The extras are duplicated, though. :/

Look on the bright side, at least now you know that Tower Assault is a game.

Dammit GOG.

skeletonbow: (6) Might and Magic 6-pack
avatar
PaterAlf: Actually this have to be seven. Might and Magic 1-6 + Swords of Xeen.
They better not unbundle 4&5 though because: World of Xeen.

skeletonbow: Pro tip: Now there will be 6 icons of Lara Croft's boobs in your library. I'm just saying.

:)

jimnorth: Any and all libraries could certainly use more jiggle.
Can't argue with that! :)
Any chance this unbundling will also fix the sort order? I have a heck of a lot of games where the second one in the series comes before the first. (And yes, I know WHY it happens. I still want it to stop.)
