borisburke: Those were chosen for contrast. Opposite extremes, if you like. I'm illustrating the point that one man's dream is another man's nightmare.
But you didn't seem to be indicating you were trying to show contrast there....and even if you were trying to show contrast, i'd think there are some better (less controversial, etc) examples you could've selected from.
borisburke: It's one of those threads better left un-pulled.
Not, imo, if one is trying to prove ST isn't just a hopeful dream.....if some of the tech/etc that makes such a society as it is is near impossible(if not impossible), then what does that say about the dream of some day having such a society?
borisburke: There are Trek episodes where they do use currency.
Yes, and iirc it's mostly personal trades between federation citizens/officers, or among other alien races.
Orkhepaj: yep , but even then it doesnt show why would anybody chose the shitty jobs , and there is still private property, there has to be a trade economy or do they get those from the party based on social credit?
I'm guessing the worse jobs maybe got more replicator credits/usage to make up for the job's requirements/etc.
Also yes, there is private property(as in personal possessions) showed as owned by several characters in the series.
