timppu: I haven't played it yet but I have the GamersGate version of it. You know, the one with extra misogyny.

That version is supposed to be DRM-free too.

RadonGOG: Cool joke about this terrible thing---always read GamersGate when somebody was talking about that stuff as well!
Apparently a lot of people did, to the point of sending them hate mail.
Steam was shit in 2010. Most of Alpha Protocol copies was sold at release on consoles and that real number is known only to SEGA.

Though AP did sold really bad on console too :) I blame the marketing of SEGA for the most part.
Like every other Obsidian RPG, AP is great once you get out of the 1st shoehorned area (not naming to avoid spoilers, such as they are) and the game opens up a bit.

If you've tried it and thought it wasn't for you... I'd say give it until you complete the 1st area...
I thought it was a great game. Shame there won't be a sequel. I'd be all over that.
Alpha Protocol is one of the best games I've ever played.

Also, this video sums up the game & the devs pretty well.

Binary Domain is the closest thing to a sequal... but it's crap...

I never played this way... looks fun though... Asshole Mike Thorton
low rated
I'm kinda let down that in this "fig.co' advisory board several ppl that worked on awesome games like Brian Fargo and Feargus Urquhart that piece of turd Tim Shaffer is with them listed. I distrust most of the projects they shill because of that.
I liked the game, too bad t didn't sell well.
It was far from perfect but still very fun to play and I wished for a AP2 after i finished it.

I didn't feel BD was even close toa sequel to AP.
I quite liked my playthrough of AP. Yeah some of the systems seemed unfinished, and like others here I went pistol+stealth, maybe that was the only viable way to have fun, no clue.

One thing I do appreciate though is that they did release an official patch removing the copy protection entirely from the disc version of the game.

Still feel like I want to go back and replay this again, but with as big a backlog I already have it's not likely to happen soon.

And 2010? Wow it felt like longer ago, I got this back when it'd hit bargain bins and I didn't have anything else catching my fancy distracting me, it's only been 5-6 years? Impressive how much the gaming market has changed.
Is that an all-time estimate of how many copies they sold?

Internet. Internet never changes.
That figure is pretty close to the number of owners SteamSpy lists for the game. And considering that back in 2010 Sega shipped around 700,000 game units, I would say the number given by Fig is pretty inaccurate at this point. But not inaccurate enough to consider Alpha Protocol a resounding success, anyway.

I think I did martial arts/stealth on my first run and I had fun, although admittedly it got frustrating when doing sections that demanded guns. What makes the game special is how it branches depending on the order you go and what you do in the conversations.

Ixamyakxim: Keep in mind though, that "back then" if a game did one million copies it was a huge hit.
That's the biggest bullshit i have heard in quite some time.
466.000 units would be good if it was a PC only game released by some indie or small-time developer.
Keep in mind that Alpha Protocol:
- Wasn't a low budget game
- Was created by a well known Developer (Obsidian)
- Published by a well known Publisher (Sega)
- Was released on multiple platforms (PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, OnLive)

Now take a look of games that were released around the time. Before or afterwards. If you take new titles (not sequels or spin-offs of known franchises), like Portal (sold 4 million), Dragon Age Origins (about 3.2 million), Mass Effect 1 (a little over 3 million) or even something like the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (over 2 million copies and it's a pc only game) the number starts to look pathetic. Even Payday: the Heist with an abysmal console release and barely any promotion managed to sell about 1 million units by now (and already had sold over 700.000 in it's first year)

No, even for "back in the day", the number is pretty bad. The game is actually pretty good
