catpower1980: Ah sorry, I never came acroos a Q-Bert cabinet IRL, only played the NES version. I would have like to put my hands on the tabletop version though... Picture in the middle of teh page:

Ahh sorry you didn't get to experience the aecade version. It really was special. Qbert even did some 'cartoon' cussing when he fell off. lol

catpower1980: For Monkey Ball & co, I played them (the PS Vita version uses some gyroscopic feature) or watched videos for reasearch purposes and making a different enough "product". The best one IMO is still Marble Blast (for level and game design) which was released 10 years ago and is now freeware with still a good community, you can check it out ;)

Cool. I mentioned them since you also like this style of games. Wanted to make sure you hadn't missed one you'd also probably enjoy. I am checking out that page for Marble Blast, since I was unfamiliar with it. Looks like fun :D

catpower1980: And for difficulty, I can't finish the speedrun mode of my own game because I always screw up at some point :o) Glad I'm the dev so I can cheat a little to get to the ending ^o^ You can't imagine the amount of "F*CK!!!!" and ragequit I had to endure while playtesting and designing every portions of the game :o) I'll get in touch with some speedrunners, normally, they should complete it in 5 minutes with their skills ^o^
<grin> Its good to be the Dev ;)

Yeah, I don't think I'll be one of the speedrunners, unless you have one for how fast a ball can be lost over the side. lol
not in. congrats on completing your game
Congrats! I enjoyed your Puzzle Bobble game a lot. Your soundtracks add a lot to the games.
I'll be in. Had to join itch.io with the impending demise of Desura...
Congrats on the new game Catpower! I wish you to sell well enough for you to make at least two more!

Yo, Greenlight is up and running:

If you wanna make some profit, get a itch.io key here and sell the steam key later on G2A, easy & quick bucks ;)
Will vote and comment too, and make my friends do the same :)

Btw really nice decision to make the different levels in different colors, but with a predominant one, not like some other indie shoot'em'ups that can give you epilepsy (colors are wonderful, but not too many at the same time).

A question to the ones who already played it - are the controls responsive enough? Could it be played at ease with keyboard/mouse, because for those sort of platformers that's one of the main pitfalls?
Congrats on the release! I'll be in, I loved Marble Madness back in the day, and like you I played it till my thumbs bled on the N.E.S. The game used to give me chills with its deliciously weird vibe. I never beat it back then, think I might have to revisit it to see if adult me has more dexterity and patience than kid me.

One of my favorite arcades from that time period was Elevator Action. I appreciated it because it was the kind of game I could make last for a long time on one quarter. I'd often blow through my whole pocketful on newer games like Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart's Super Off Road rather quickly, then I'd go with my last quarter and kick it old school with my old friend, Elevator Action.

Congratulations, catpower1980! Wishing you a successful release! I wasn't really ever into Marble Madness, so I'll pass.

But, as the.kuribo said, Elevator Action was one of my favorites too.

In fact, I don't really rely on sales to make further games as mentioned (or not, I don't remember) in my "Fuck unemployment" giveaway, I do it on my savings and more for the experience than to win the lottery so a few more games are in the pipe. Next one will be in autumn ;)

For the colors, it's already visual heavy so I didn't add more ^o^

For the controls, it's good when playing 60fps and above (below it gets too jerky). For the keyboard/mouse, in fact, you just use the arrows (or wasd) in-game and the mouse for the menus. When I write that you can drink or smoke while playing, I really mean it :o)

BTW, are you in or not? ;)

I played the arcade machine a lot in the 80's, some good memories :) The sequel "Elevator Action Returns" is even better and is one of those relatively 90's arcade gem, I only got to play through emulator sadly. The firs stage is "classic" but afterwards it gets wilder ^o^

catpower1980: snip
Thank you very much for the explanation.

I am not really familiar with how social welfare system in your country, but that quarterly social business taxes kind of took a lot from you, eh ? before I was wondering if the cost was because of the tools, but it turns out more into life, legal, and publishing cost. I'll take notes from your experience as I also want to make and publish my own game, but I want to settle a steady job first before start developing.

Once again, good luck with the greenlight process. I read some comments there and.. well, some of it are harsh. You might need to add some contents before they are pleased. or you could just focusing the sells on itch.io first.

Honestly (and from other dev experiences), the best way is to have a job on the side because there is a lot of variables to take into account if you to even cover up your costs. The experienced dev of The Next Penelope has written a great article on the journey he went through to put out his game, a translation in English is on the way and when it's out, you'll know what's it's like to do everything by yourself with no incomes :o) Current not translated article:
http://aurelregard.tumblr.com/

As for comments on Greenlight, that's what I was expecting so it doesn't bother me. Backstage the yes/vote ratio is normal compared to the average of succesful greenligh titles (I like all those stats ^o^)

EDIT: on the costs, it implies that you do everything yourself. Otherwise, the numbers add up quickly. For example, in music, if you hire a professional composer, the rates are around 150$ per minute of music... Also needless to say that having an employee is big no-no...

For revenues, this what you would get from European customers (where VAT is applied):
