WinterSnowfall: The Holy Inquisition!

I really didn't expect that Spanish Inquisition!
I guess the option would be good for those that browse GoG when at work during their lunch break, and have the possibility for a colleague or boss looking over their shoulder and getting the wrong idea no seeing 'Being a Dik' or an anime babe with an extortionately oversized rack scroll passed on the carousel atop the GoG home page...

Could save a lot of embarrassment and fruitless convincing, especially once people have come to their own conclusion (whether rightly or wrongly) on seeing said content...

They are really really prudish.

Breja: It would be most welcome. Unfortunately, a lot of people around here tend to go ape shit around here when such a feature is suggested, because apparently wanting the simple convenience of not having porn like Being a Dik (aka Uncanny Valley of the Sex Dolls) dumped into every search for "RPGs" makes one a "puritan" out to burn everyone's wank material.

avatar
Darvond: We have a tag system,
avatar
Breja: Which only allows you to choose what to search for, not what to exclude from search. That's not the same thing. And you have to use the tags every time for a new search. I'm never going to be interested in any porn game. They will only ever clutter my search. Would be much more convenient to be able to hide them with one click forever.

Not to mention the tags are kindy... wonky. I mean "great soundtrack"? The hell does that mean? Who decides which games have great soundtracks? Do all the other games have shit soundtracks? Why isn't there a tag for "great" anything else, like graphics or voice acting?
It lets you choose what to exclude. Use the eye button that appears when you hover your mouse over it.

But yes there are definitely lots of mislabeled things. For example Death end re;Quest is labeled with sexual content and nudity.
avatar
SomeInternetDude: I also support having an option.

I don't have kids in the house, but if I did, I wouldn't want Hunie Pop 2 being displayed prominently when I load up the store front.

EDIT: Yes, this actually happened to me.
The banner for Huniepop isn't too bad at all is it?

Huh, I guess I'm a dummy. Didn't realise that's there. It would still be helpful to have an option to make exclusions permanent, but I guess this is something.

Hey, I get it. But there's no need to insult the best selling adult game in the Daz 3D world by calling it "Uncanny Valley Of The Sex Dolls." It's not my fault you have uncanny valley issues. We don't all suffer from that issue. Apparently people on the ASD are unaffected by it and given the popularity of these games worldwide, I suppose a lot of people have ASD on this planet. Interesting.

Also, we gotta get this out right now. These games, especially Being A DIK, deal with a lot of themes you would not necessarily expect in a "sex game." See, what you THINK you're getting is a sex game. But then things hit hard in the drama department. Two of the characters have to hide the fact that they're gay. One doesn't want to be shamed by his peers, the other has a very religious father. Another one of the characters risks her life dealing with shady characters to sell drugs in the dorm. There's a lot of deep shit that happens in these games.

In another game (which just finished) called Leap Of Faith, you have to talk a woman down from suicide. She jumps, but you are able to grab her. What porn have you ever seen that dealt with suicide and depression?

These aren't just sex games, there's a lot more to them than that. This is also why they're popular. A lot of people are admittedly reading for the stories, like myself. The sex is just a bonus.

I'm on the spectrum and the uncanny valley thing definitely affects me!

Hmmm .. I don't see an icon like that over game banners. On what page am I supposed to see that?

So ... we want a filter for "uncanny valley of sex dolls" games, one for "too much gore in my eye, can't see anymore", one for "why would I want to play puzzle games?" and "gee, another decision maker story".

Is that about right?
Protip: If you're too young to buy, or stupid to find free pornography on the Internet, the Eye of Sauron does in a pinch with a vivid imagination.

'cause for you this is just a good time but for me this is what I call life.

Shmacky-McNuts: Be a homicidal maniac, killing people for pleasure; The moral police are fine with.
Have anything sexual in a work of fiction and Chicken Little clucks like a maniac, that the sky falling.
Yes, the world is partly illogical. Now consider a pragmatic approach to that when you want to give a recommendation about which game stores are good: if your recommendation may be seen by the moral police, do you suggest the DRM-free store that has sexual works on the homepage, or the DRM-encumbered store that hides them until a user creates an account and deliberately goes looking for them?

Also, the moral police are only partially illogical on this, at least for games that depict rape. After a real-life murder the crime is likely to be noticed by other people, there's little reason to avoid publishing the victim's identity, the police are likely to investigate*, it's likely to be prosecuted, and it's likely to be widely reported. Even if a rumour about a murder goes round, it's unlikely to spread when other people start asking where the news stories are. Therefore someone's acquaintances are very unlikely to falsely suspect them of murder, even if they're known to enjoy games that depict murder.

* At least, hopefully you live in a place where murder isn't a common occurrence.

Ah, thanks. For a moment I hoped I coud directly exclude certain games from showing.
To be devil's advocate here:

You can joke around with a 6 year old about killing a bad guy by shooting them multiple times. In fact more likely they will start the joke by pretend-shooting you.

But you can't joke around with a 6 year old about fucking a prostitute in a weird way.

Children understand violence from a very young age but only understand sex from a much later age.

Does that help the debate in any way?

I doubt it :)
Some kids shoot their sisters with a gun and expect her to stand back up.
Let's just be glad they understand that later, given the number of daily homicides in the US. Adding a large number of younglings would be horror.

@all
Really, The homepage and game pages shows a lot more blood and gore than they show boobies. I can't stand that anime trash (what can I say, that's how I value it, I respect if others see it differently), but the pics show nothing offensive.

If we stick to the boobies and girls are bad argment.
We have here one game that is evil, it was named as example for a game that should be hidden:
