Is this thread doomed to be necroed forever and ever? Well, it is an ever relevant thread but the early posts may not be so relevant any longer with models out of stock for many years.

Crosmando: Sony MDR-7506, the original and the best. Still using the same pair I bought like 10 years old and still going strong.

rtcvb32: I'd recommend a cheap $10-$15 headset from Dollar General, Walmart or whatever stores you have in your area; go for the 3mm plug.

If you go bluetooth the delay may cause issues, not to mention the radiation it releases is said not to be the best for you (not as bad as putting your phone to your ear).
yep cheap is good if it has acceptable usage , no need to worry it will break just buy a new one

No doubt it will break, probably from usage. I usually got 2 something years, though walking with headphones they last a little shorter than that, usually the cable getting breaks in the line somewhere.

There's very little where you need high quality headphones, at least for home/gaming. Maybe noise cancelling ones when you go traveling, or high quality ones when doing music, but otherwise i don't see the point.

The music thing was enough for me. I settled on a budget for new headphones, got a set of second-hand Yamaha HPH-PRO500's instead for about a third of RRP and have been extremely pleased with them. That's been a particularly important point with COVID closing ordinary venues but expanding streaming, although I didn't know that when I got the headphones.

Mind you, I keep the Yamahas plugged into the desktop most of the time and make do with earphones when I'm out and about, and sometimes when using the laptop as well. I'm not an audiophile so no, I wouldn't have paid full price for the Yammies - but even I can hear that they make a significant difference.

Ya I ain't a audiophile either I only really have ever bought afew low end but good headphones ..Before the gaming type.. Though they was for other things in terms of audio usage but they was still really good and noticable difference to the cheap store carried stuff.. Though I had bought those Playstation ones at surplus for over half off retail price(odds are they was put out at first for the ps4 and also they are wired rather then bluettooth that more and more people are going to despite I like wired headphones and such as they don't need charged) and I got a sony mdr-zx110 cheap as heck too because I was like''hey they are cheap and work on pc might aswell see what the fuss is about'' and I noticed a huge difference in sound quality for not just gaming but watching stuff too

I really like the marshals
Nobody (in two years) has mentioned comfort; for example, I can't stand (in-) earbuds for any length of time.

I use closed cans to keep from disturbing others.

I would recommend a light headset, since I find that my ears become quite sore after a few hours. Also my tinnitus is exacerbated, probably because I have the sound set too loud —— since I am losing my hearing, which is a vicious cycle. So try and keep the volume as low as practicable. (Just sayin'. You'll admit I am right when it's too late. :)

I still use the same USB headphones I used when I last time posted into this thread, and I intend to use them also when I next time post to this same thread.

Your assumption is fallacious.
Even though the OP may have satisfactorily completed their quest for a proximal solution to the immediate need/s, even so the secondary purpose of a (public) conversation like this is to assist others who may be faced with a similar situation in the not-too-distant future, when such musings will still be relevant and thus assist them to solve their audiophonic challenges.

Doesn't it hurt to put those USB plugs in your lugs?
