monkeydelarge: So If I had it my way, there would late night porn commercials on TV in the USA. LOL
A good in-between would be like the tv-show "voyage au bout de la nuit" on French tv cable where attractive women and men read books and litterature classics, sometimes wearing sexy clothes.... :o)

monkeydelarge: Tolerance can only work both ways between like minded individuals.
avatar
hucklebarry: That isn't even close to true. Tolerance is a trait. While some may not posses it (like grace, decency, kindness, etc.). Some people most certainly do have it. If no one did... we would not have a civilization safe enough to allow us the ability to indulge such a low need on the hierarchy scale as chatting on the internet. And tolerance isn't even needed between like minded individuals. Tolerance is accepting others that are NOT like yourself. Your statement doesn't make sense. I'm sorry you haven't met tolerant people.. I've met plenty and am a better person for the tolerance people show me.

perhaps better put... tolerance is a choice. Everyone is capable of it... some just choose to avoid it at the end of the day.
No, I don't think so. The majority of people in a country, are "mainstream" so they aren't so different from each other. Like one big herd of sheep. So most interactions between people are between like minded individuals. And those who are different from the mainstream(those who are not sheeple), usually choose to live a cowardly lifestyle of never revealing their differences to others(because they fear intolerance) or live the life of an outcast or both. And the reason why most people in a country are "mainstream"(or appear to be mainstream) is due to peer pressure, the desire to live a comfortable life and growing up in an environment that ensures people become mainstream. So tolerance in your eyes is just really an illusion. All those people you met who were tolerant towards you were people who were like minded. I'm not saying they were exactly like you, like they were your clones but they weren't so different from you. Nobody is capable of tolerance. I will give you an example. Let's grab 50 normal people and put them in a room. Then let's grab 50 people who are truly different from those people. Well, what kind of people would be truly different from normal people? Racists. Misogynists. Communists. Vegans(the ones who think eating meat is evil). Feminists who hate men. Pedophiles. Murderers. Rapists. Christian Extremists. Muslim Extremists. Libertarians. Terrorists. Cannibals. Satanists. Douchebags with no morals. Criminals. Then let's put 50 of these people in the same room. Then have them all share their thoughts about many different things. How many of these 50 normal people will accept everyone from the other group of 50? The reasons why this civilization exists is because this civilization is mostly comprised of like minded people and people also need to survive(so those who are different wear masks). And they also desire to be comfortable(so those who are different wear masks). And there is also laws and people to enforce the laws so that also makes sure, everyone plays nice with each other. :) And a lot of people who are too different from the herd, are rotting in prison or homeless or locked up in a mental hospital. There is also peer pressure and our environment, an environment that attempts to brainwash people since they are born to be members of the herd. The tolerance you see is just like minded people accepting each other. Just people inside the Matrix, accepting each other. Because people can only tolerate those who are like minded. Fellow citizens of the Matrix.

monkeydelarge: But if you care about the rights of people you hate, then do you truly hate them? Maybe you are incapable of hating others so you just dislike them?
avatar
Fenixp: Well... It's possible I've just never experienced true hatred, it's the sort of thing you never know unti you actually live trough it - caring about their rights does sound logical tho, from the completely selfish perspective that you don't want to give them ammunition to get easy vengeance on you
I've noticed that some people just aren't capable of true hatred no matter how bad someone has wronged them in the past or is making their life miserable. And then there are people who will unleash true hatred that lasts a life time upon people who just said something once that pissed them off.
I'm going to make a game called "Love". You'll go around giving hugs and flowers, doing charity work, and complementing people.

Is it okay if I question the legitimacy of the votes?

We've had several much more fondly regarded games that have barely broken the 1000 barrier.

And what exactly would make them illegitimate ? Most games don't get as much coverage as this one's had .

This game is controversial. The much more fondly regarded games are not.

I'm still going to question the swiftness of the arrival of the votes.

Lots of voters on Steam who were pissed off, I guess.

The gamergaters are directing each other to the site to vote for it. It's all over Twitter and Reddit, etc. "Go teach those SJW's a lesson! Make GOG pro-GG!" etc. GOG in general is being overrun by these reactionaries. You can see it throughout the forum and this thread. They're even corrupting select game reviews on the site as well—not a trivial matter. Even more troubling is that GOG doesn't seem to care.

It's incredibly ironic and hypocritical to say "it's just a game/keep your politics out of my game," when both this game's devs' and its fans' explicitly stated purpose is to make and effect some sort of (flimsy and tired) social/political statement.

Support for this game has little to do with the game itself, so yeah, questioning the legitimacy of those votes is entirely...legitimate. Much the same way that gamergate itself has little to nothing to do with "ethics in gaming journalism," actually.
