To be honest, not all of it. But I am in the process. I have so far only read the introduction which that itself took a few hours because I also had to read the other studies in which it referenced. So far what I have read disturbs me. Not only is it referencing research that was poorly conducted and has plenty of criticism, but it goes on to state them as fact. This is apparent as the report starts off as "It is well known that violent video games increase aggression". This raises my suspicions on the kind of research this particular group would have conducted. Perhaps you digested it a little too easily.

While you will have, as you say "no problem" getting a violent video game like Hatred on Steam, everybody in Germany and a few other countries probably will, because Steam checks their IP and locks them out. Not just from buying it on their store, even from activating an imported disc version, which is necessary in order to be able to play it. If you live in one of those countries you will have no chance to play it in a legal way.

So if GOG doesn't sell this game for any other reason than censorship, that's a big deal for you. But getting it on Steam where people with the 'wrong' IP are restricted, that's no problem.

You hate censorship and fell in love with Steam - the #1 tool for censorship in PC gaming. I hope you do realize how ridiculous this is.

Or they're saying their other supporters threatened to pull out of their agreements thus crippling GoG as a site, and eventually putting themselves out of business.

Just saying. If the game garners enough heat (which I doubt) that other Devs don't want their games next to it on the shelf, it could happen. It's the beauty of hypothetical.

Things change. GOG just landed a HUGE contract with "Lucasfilm Classics". For those of us who prefer reading news to making it up, that's Disney.

It's not hard to see Disney having a problem having it's products on the same shelf as a game like Hatred.

Well I live in the USA now and I tried hard to forget the horrors of censorship while living in Germany. So I forgot that Steam supports that kind of evil. Damn, now I'm having horrible flashbacks...

There is no shelf... If Disney gets their panties in a bunch because a digital games store that sells Hatred also sells old PC games owned by Disney then that is just ridiculous. Disney stopped being a group that produces conservative only entertainment for thought police families some time ago. Disney also shouldn't expect a store like GOG to support censorship considering GOG sells Postal 2 and has moral principles. And those Star Wars games are very violent BTW. Half of them are Stormtrooper mass murder simulators. Disney would look retarded if they took a stand against Hatred. Oh, it's not disgusting when innocent people are killed with blaster rifles for wearing white shiny looking futuristic armor? What kind of BS is this?

Been thinking... Both AlphaOmegaSin and ReviewTechUSA have basically said the same thing, that the trailer is extra violent and controversial just to get attention on it so it can get basically free advertising because everyone's talking about it.

Back a few pages ago I posted that I would never play this game. Yet AOS and RTU brought up points regarding other games in comparison and in some ways how that might make me a hypocrite. I've shot rocket launchers at monsters in doom, done head shots in Halo, assassinated dozens of people in Assassin's Creed games. So what's the difference?

The difference I guess, is how it makes you feel. A video game can't teach you how to fire a gun, even the scope-like ones aren't the same as actually holding a weapon, especially when bullets get jammed and need attention. Everything that happens in the game is 'pretend'.

But there is a distinct difference in it all. The more realistic the game is, the less I want to play it. I'd rather be able to launch fireballs and see ragdoll physics and other things in Oblivion, than play Metal of Honor or Call of Duty. I was in the military, I was almost sent to Iraq. I was trained to use the weapons, last thing I need is a heavy reminder of what could have been.

But perhaps something more relevant. There was a month period while I was at a military base, where I felt crappy, and so everything turned to this energizing rage that just fueled me. I listened to high energy music, Nickelback and Evenesense. I was in perhaps the most... premeditated and aggressive state I've ever been in. I drove my car fast and hard, I was one step away from decking anyone; Thank god we were only issued weapons during training or an emergency, otherwise the temptation to use it if/when I snapped would be too great. Being aggressive is much like depression, the longer you're in it, the harder it is to let it go, it starts to become your normal state.

Back to hatred, perhaps the biggest issue is who are the targets: Badguys, nazis, guys with guns, angels and aliens, monsters on a wet-erase marker mat, pixelated tiles, etc, they are defined in a safe separate section that's put to rest in your mind, almost no one is a bystander.

But there are always some lines you don't cross even when 'pretending'. Even reading a book with stark and very vivid descriptions of using torture pushes the boundaries. It's not pretend when you're in the scene and in their shoes. It's not something I ever want to experience again.

In Hatred, I see a lot of lines being crossed that I wouldn't want to see how dark my mind really is. I never want to hear someone begging for their life when it's at my hands; I don't care if it's only a video game. I know I'd become a real monster if I became desensitized, if I became any more emotionless/robotic than I already am. And trust me, if that ever happens, pulling a trigger is just as easy as clicking a mouse button, especially if you already know how to handle the weapon.

I never want to find myself there.

Take my wall of text however you will, be it internal worry, a blog, or just another opinion. I'm not trying to sway anyone, just felt like speaking my mind on the topic.

I don't see what's the whole matter over this game, it looks stupid... but kinda appealing, and I'd like to try it out, hope there is more alternative scenarios, like wannabe heroes or serious police force, oh and lets hope they don't go for "realism" as no man no matter how badass he may look would take on the entire police department using regular clothes, long jacket and long black hair, so that would defeat the whole "realism" thing.

On the violence seen in the trailer... I've seen worse, a digital man begging for his life and getting his head blown off isn't going to shock me, there's plenty of worse media material out there from the real world, enough to make some people sick.
