jefequeso: You know, this brings up an interesting idea... given that Hatred is basically just Postal 1 with modern visuals, and managed to get this amount of press, I'll bet someone could just reskin Chiller or Carmageddon and watch the free press roll in.
well Stainless Games did make a new Carmageddon but no one really noticed. The only reason why Hatred got noticed in the first place was because some mouth breathers decided to spam Valve about the game, saying it's racists and the devs are nazi's ect. Which gets the game pulled and hits the press and people notice the game and the devs a way to market the game. If that never happened I do not doubt no one would of given a damn, it would just popped up on Steam a few people would of bought it and that was that.
Honestly outside of the game being really painfully repetitive like Postal 1 was, enter level kill X people go to next stage, lather rinse repeat. It's really not that controversial, kill all the fags was more controversial and badly done to boot.
Sure the premise of a spree killer especially with the recent rash of spree shootings that had happened here in the States the past few years is still not that bad. a bit tasteless maybe. I don't know maybe it's because I've seen much, much worse subjects being turned into games and no one bats a eye because few people knew they even exist, like this concentration camp simulator and most stuff from neo nazi and other white supremacist groups.
Still my point is, had that initial incident with Steam not happened, I doubt anyone would of noticed but because it happened the devs started using it to work people into wanting to check out this game because it's so controversial and most not all are dumb enough to fall for it just for that reason alone. Again since alot of time you have to spell things out I am not saying all people who wanted or were interested in this game did so because of the controversy just that there became alot more who did because of it.
