Green_Hilltop: Actually, let's be more interactive and not do the genre thing - why do you need to learn the language of the lizards?
Thanks. Especially since I myself must have asked "what's the genre?" a zillion times. As bonus I will tell you the genre: It's an RPG.
As to why... It's a lizard town and if you understand the language you can talk, trade, get quests... etc I played it long ago, but at least one of the quests points you in the direction of the main quests that you need to do to finish the game.
Note that the dialogue system in the game does not recognize whether you understand the language or not. You always get their dialogues in lizard-talk. This means that you can simply use a game-guide with a dictionary instead of learning it the "proper" way in game.
And they're just lizards so the vocabulary is not that big.
EDIT:
Also, the lizards do understand your language, but can't speak it. As I mentioned, one of the ways of learning the basics of their language is to try and figure some of it yourself by talking to them. You can for example ask them "Does 'susumda' mean 'food'" and see what they reply (in their language).
You can of course just answer randomly. You can, for example, talk to a lizard, listen to his gibberish and from the answers given select "Yes" hoping that he was offering you free food, and not asking for a permission to kill you.
It was pretty neat.
