ZFR: Since no one stepped up:

Help! Can anyone help me to learn the language of the lizards? I've found a dictionary on the internet, but I'm wondering if there is an in-game way to learn it. I can try and ask them about few words, but that barely covers the basics.
That sounds amazing! Is it an RPG? Or a scifi?

Actually, let's be more interactive and not do the genre thing - why do you need to learn the language of the lizards?

Thanks. Especially since I myself must have asked "what's the genre?" a zillion times. As bonus I will tell you the genre: It's an RPG.

As to why... It's a lizard town and if you understand the language you can talk, trade, get quests... etc I played it long ago, but at least one of the quests points you in the direction of the main quests that you need to do to finish the game.

Note that the dialogue system in the game does not recognize whether you understand the language or not. You always get their dialogues in lizard-talk. This means that you can simply use a game-guide with a dictionary instead of learning it the "proper" way in game.

And they're just lizards so the vocabulary is not that big.

EDIT:
Also, the lizards do understand your language, but can't speak it. As I mentioned, one of the ways of learning the basics of their language is to try and figure some of it yourself by talking to them. You can for example ask them "Does 'susumda' mean 'food'" and see what they reply (in their language).
You can of course just answer randomly. You can, for example, talk to a lizard, listen to his gibberish and from the answers given select "Yes" hoping that he was offering you free food, and not asking for a permission to kill you.

It was pretty neat.

That sounds great! I'd love to play such a game. I'm guessing it'll be some kind of an old RPG game (and yeah, I always love it when we get descriptions of what actually happens in the game rather than mechanics and info about the game, like the year released etc.).

Can you describe the main character or what kind of quest are you on?

Albion? I remember that one having lizardy things...

The main character has no specific description. During character creation you get to choose your gender, class, skills and even looks. The only thing fixed is race: you play a human.

Your quest is the classic "rescue a lady from a dungeon". And incidentally escape the said dungeon yourself. You see, you were kind of forced by the girl's father to get her out, and his guards won't let you leave without the daughter.

Oh yes, I know! It's Ultima Underworld, isn't it? :) I've never gotten to the part with the lizards though, I just tried the beginning.

Yes it is. You're up.

Here is a screenshot of a dialogue, by the way. The dialogue so far is shown in the main window (your text is light brown) and the 3 dialogue choices you now have are shown below. As you can see, if you don't understand what he's saying you can inadvertently say something you won't be happy with.

Oh, and the in-game method of learning the language is pretty fun too. But I won't spoil the surprise.

Albion is awesome but that one has jaguar-like and feline characters, unless lizards come in later in the game. It's a really great game, I can recommend it to all!

Yeah, that sounds really nice. I like being able to learn languages in games that make sense and aren't too complicated, like in UU! :)

You stand in front of a beatiful castle, however it's not advised to speak to the Liege's son, otherwise he might get you in trouble. The place is beautiful, however I was always surprised why did they keep teleporters in the courtyard that only get you to straight into a territory you probably wouldn't really want to venture in on your own.

Describe the territory (where the teleporters get you) a bit and why wouldn't you want to venture there?

That's a bit spoilersh, however I'll tell you that depending on your nature it can actually be fun to jump in and go there!

There are nice fountains next to the teleporters and you'll probably want to buy some new fancy spells at some of the magic guilds nearby.

Is it a Might and Magic game?

It's a game of wizards and goblins, of dastardly cults and werewolves!
It is not advised to try to fly in some of the towns, you might get hit by the local air defense thinking you're the enemy!

Might and Magic 6?

Yes. I should have recognized this from the first description.
