"GreedFall II - The Dying World, an open world adventure RPG and anticipated sequel to 2019’s GreedFall, is coming soon to GOG!"

Latest Doneigada Trailer from yesterday.
Still haven't played the DLC for the original game, because I finished it before it released. I rarely replay big RPGs like this and when I do, it's usually at least 10 years since last playthrough. Hopefully, there won't be many references to it in the 2nd game :P

I quite enjoyed the first one, but I hope they'll tone down the companion shout-outs or - heaven forbid! - give us an option to toggle that shit off. If I hear "a bit of poison on my blade" or that "things are about to get dicey" for the thousandth time again I'm going to choke a bitch.

I haven't played the first game yet, but looking at GreedFall II, the new combat system doesn't give me a good impression at all. I'm way more into real action combat instead of the strategic/tactical type.
Not sure about it, more due to being a prequel than a sequel though. Sometimes prequels don't quite work as they are constrained by Canon events from previous games and since this game only takes place 3 years before the first game we do have an idea how events will end up.

I loved the first game, but...

... by game's end I'd grown a bit weary of the natives. Seeing that in Greedfall 2 we play as that faction... *meh*

As for the combat change...

... yeah, I agree with you. IMO Spiders had a solid real-time combat system in Greedfall and -- instead of simply refining it -- going back to BioWare's real-time with pause and swapping between characters feels like a step backward. This is the very reason I loved Dragon's Dogma (real-time 3rd person combat with fully autonomous AI companions) and tended to dislike Dragon Age Inquisition (real-time 3rd person combat with pause and swapping between companions)... in fact I remember watching a Dragon Age YouTube channel where they hoped DA would adopt either fully turn-based combat or something reminiscent of Dragon's Dogma. I have to agree.

Overall, I was quite interested when Greedfall 2 was announced... yes, my enjoyment of the first Greedfall rivaled God of War... but...

... I'm losing steam the more I see. I get the feeling Greedfall 2 will be fine (Spiders is competent)... but much like Elex II. Let's hope I'm wrong and it's absolutely great.

Like I said I've yet to play the first game. First I need to get the Vespe Conspiracy DLC to play the whole game in one sitting.

Real time combat is what I like in these type of games. I have GreedFall II in my wishlist but I might remove it enterely and never get because of the combat, unfortunately.

As for your wish of DA having a combat system reminiscent of Dragon's Dogma, I think it might come true. DA: Dreadwolf is rumoured to have it. You can see a supposed clip of it here https://insider-gaming.com/dragon-age-dreadwolf-gameplay/

I enjoy real-time combat where there is a lot of party management... or... turn-based combat, but I've never really enjoyed real-time with pause where you slow time as you make tactical decisions. But, I've played a few games with it in the past and if Greedfall 2 is a good experience overall, I'll do it again.

My big issue is that I always felt Spiders was on the verge of a great action combat system (unlike another AA dev like Piranha Bytes) and I hate to see a series like Greedfall jettison that system instead of working to perfect it.

If there's substantial planning and party resource allocation prior to battle, I'd love to see weighty real-time combat in Dragon Age... but then I enjoyed Dragon Age II (yikes!).

Not a prequel!! At least give sequel before a prequel. Still I loved the first game a lot and will probably pick this one up.

Started playing the first game. Got to finish that before thinking about Greedfall II. Basically same thing with Kingdom Come Deliverance :D, although I've finished the base game of KCD, but it was years ago and I've been eager to replay the game.
Artistic Inspiration
I both liked and disliked the first game.
Liked the new world and the combination between renaissance, illuminism and mysticism; the combat was fine, but my main gripe with it is that there are way, *way* too many filler fights, to the point I got really burned out 2/3rds in.
If they add some variety, make encounters more chanllenging and drastically reduce them in number (no more respawning enemies, please), this can be a real gem.

What a bummer is this confirmed? I actually played Greedfall because I LOVED their style of combat system. I felt like Greedfall was actually a *slight* step backwards from The Technomancer - a game I absolutely loved, in both use of skills in exploration and quest solving AND combat... but I still did enjoy Greedfall.

Need to finish it up - the world was very unique and cool. I like the way gear upgrades are handled and my favorite part of combat in Technomancer was the ease and utility of flicking back and forth between different styles of combat based on situation and enemy type.

So color me let down if Greedfall II is abandoning this :(

Yes, unfortunately.

IGN did a hands-on preview and mentions that the coombat system of the first game is completely replaced by this new one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gm7_Wvs6dnc

I agree with you that Greedfall felt a bit like a step backwards from Technomancer. Technomancer is still my favorite game from Spiders to date (still hoping for a sequel...). But, just like you, I also enjoyed Greedfall (still haven't played the DLC, though).

And while I like Action RPGs in general, I for one still am looking forward to the change from that action-oriented gameplay to a more tactical approach - at least if it really plays like Dragon Age: Origins, because I really want another game like that (and none of the other DA games felt and truly played like DA:O, imho).

What's most important to me, usually, are the story and the characters, however. As long as those two are done well, I can probably "deal" with any kind of gameplay mechanic. But yeah, I understand everyone has their own preferences/priorities. Me, I'll definitely get Greedfall II as soon as it releases in Early Access, because I liked the world the first game built and am eager to get back there.
