Posting here purely because I don't even know what my rep score is, or how to find it - apart from posting here and then looking at my own comment. Clearly it's a very important number, so I guess I'd better find out.

EDIT: 32. Hmm ... meaningful. Doesn't sound very high, but then I don't post very often. Does it affect my credit score with banks or something?

The rep score is occasionally used by people giving give aways to cut down on people making a new account for their giveaway or known troublemakers.

If they'd implement something that would allow us to automatically ignore posts by people with negative rep or rep under a certain level it might be useful, but as it is it does basically nothing.

The only real exception is that if you down rep somebody you have the option of reporting it as spam. And if that account gets too many of those it gets auto-banned. That is unless they've actually bought a game.

To be fair, the whole forum is full of assholes, trolls and idiots now. There used to be a much better class of people in here years ago. Now you have all those beggars and nobs that don't give a shit about the community.

I've wanted change on the forum for years now specifically because the forum is degenerating the way that fora always degenerate over time when the owners can't be arsed to manage the activity.

Even minor annoyances like Barry's daily vote for X threads wouldn't even rate a notice if we had more than just one forum to cram everything into.

That would only make the situation worse, making it a real problem for people who got downrepped by trolls.

Are you sure about that? As far as I know a certain number of reports will automatically delete the post, but I don't think that the feature can be used to auto-ban a user.

Yeah, I'm sure. GR was autobanned by that years ago. Since that incident they modified it so that if you've made any purchases you don't get autobanned.

It's there primarily for dealing with spammers.

That's why there's usually an option in systems like that to set your own threshold or see all posts. I generally choose to look at all posts, but other people select higher thresholds.

Even so, it would still make rep matter more and thus make the problem of derepping bigger. It's a good idea to implement, but only after the matter of rampant derepping has been dealt with. Before then it would really make life much harder for people being hit.

The thing is that rep should matter and the only thing that really resolves this issue is for GOG to start cracking down on people that make large numbers of accounts.

What you ask is impossible. It is 100% impossible for GOG to determine how many accounts one person has. Any method to attempt to do so is easily circumvented.

After barely being here for the past 6 months, I see that things appear to have gone from "crap" to "shithouse".

As for all the fuckwits here I certainly hope nothing but bad luck dogs your footsteps.
Hahaha. How HIGH do you even have to be to do something like that?

You're throwing the most childish tantrum over forum rep. Like, I'd get it if you were complaining about post quality in general or if you thought most of gog is knobheads and let us know that and then you just get off the forum.

but getting gog to ban you to make a point about a system no one sane cares much about in the first place, It's making you look pretty daft is what it is.

With that kind of attitude, it will be you who gets dogged by "bad luck".

I think this place will improve without you

Is there any relationship between the joy you expressed in the What made you happy today? thread and the two you have made on this topic?

"I get to stir up more shit tomorrow,yah..."

They can't be 100% certain, but there's numerous ways in which they can make it less convenient.

None of which are remotely effective. It takes minimal effort or even computer knowledge other than "use a search engine" to figure out how to circumvent anything GOG could do. The closest I could think of is to enforce identity verification, and that would create an absolute shitstorm and is still easily circumvented by using another person's identity.

Maybe retina scanning via webcam? Bugger I'm stuffed then as I don't have a webcam, not to mention that it is discriminatory towards those without retinas! :P
