JoeSapphire: Bah.

But on the subject of mafia driving people insane, I'm tempted to go for short deadlines this game.
...
Anybody care to try and change my mind?
All sounds perfectly reasonable to me! And yeah, like Poppy, if the game hasn't started by the time I'm back then I would absolutely like to play.

JoeSapphire: Bah.

But on the subject of mafia driving people insane, I'm tempted to go for short deadlines this game.
Here's my reasoning:
- I don't want to be moderating for months, and there's a queue of people who are currently eager to mod a game.
- I'd rather risk the game being a little unfair than risk it being too tedious.
- Long days don't allow for people with little time to give their opinion so much as they allow those who are present to waffle on and on. Long nights anger Vitek.
- While horribly painful for me, I'm sure the end of Day One in Game #53 was massively amusing for everybody watching, so more of that to entertain me!
- There's good and bad to both sides of the argument, and you can't please everybody, but this is what I want to do.

Anybody care to try and change my mind?

trentonlf: Don’t you have to possess a mind to change first?
thanks I got it

Regarding flabour; for this one I'm thinking EITHER:

- A meeting of Wizards (silly)
- A sailing ship (gritty)
- Haitian kanaval (spooky)

At the moment I'm leaning towards Haiti, but I've not finished my 'research' yet. But any of them or some new idea I come up with between now and when the game starts will be fine.

But if anybody's particularly inspired by one of these you can share your enthusiasm

I like it.
the short deadlines make me think of the russian roulette game bookwyrm mentioned that I just read and it was super fast and fun to read. But of course that's overdrive (they never even hit any deadline)...

Anyway since you mentioned the end of day 1 in game #53 What do you think about default lynching the player with the most votes at nightfall unlike defaulting to no-lynch if no majority is reached? it should make for faster games and if a majority wants no-lynch for whatever reason they can vote for it.

never really understood why that's not the default? is it a balance issue?

(hmm, I just thought what if two people have the same amount of votes at nightfall :/ no-lynch then? or random?)

JoeSapphire: Do you mean flavourworld or available roles?
Mostly the theme of the game: some general flavor and/or maybe some of the mechanical space you're considering. If it is an open or semi-open setup, then I'd strongly suggest posting the setup. Obviously the mechanical details of a closed setup shouldn't be posted.

Put out a teaser to help spark people's interest. Your current version is "It will be Door Number One or Door Number Two. I haven't decided yet, I just need twelve [strikethru] victims [/stirkethru] players".

Just keep in mind that you'll likely have players with significantly different RL day/night cycles. If you make the deadlines too short, people won't have a chance to reasonably interact with each other.

There was no true deadline. Once you took a shot, you were on a cool down before being able to take another shot (cool down ended if someone got shot, if everyone took a shot, or if a RL day passed (I think it was)). There was a lot of incentive not to sit around yapping.

I suspect it is mostly a case of culture, "It's always been that way" (a few games have specified majority lynch at deadline, but such is more the exception).

I believe maj lynch is the default at MU, and the bot randomly selects from among the relevant wagons in the event of a tie.

If the town screws up and reaches a no-lynch why should they be helped? Let them suffer the consequences.

I'm inclined to agree. The threat of a no-lynch is the motivation for people to sort shit out before the deadline. If it's an automatic lynch of the leading wagon then I think people will slack.

damn but he makes a good point.

I think I prefer letting them suffer no-lynch if they can't do it themselves. But I might change my mind.
If they're doing the opposite over at Marrakesh University you can bet I'm going to do the apposite!

I think I'm with bookwyrm with this. I'd like to be teased into it ... and then get all hyped up throughout d1 then no-lynch (it's kinda traumatic but I think I played?/read? more games with no-lynch D1 than with a lynch at D1) then who knows?

anyway, I'm inclined to play even though I don't really have much free time. Guess I can't promise much more than 1 maybe 2 posts per day but then again frakk it, you people can always kill me off for being a lurker :D

so if you'll have me even though I might not be the most active player (hope I'll not be the least one either but who knows), then yes I'm in :D

*shrug* I'm just telling what I know. Another culture difference at MU is that first day always runs to the deadline; D2 and every Day after can end early once majority is reached, but Day 1 doesn't end early even if maj is reached.

Getting any old lynch is not necessarily good for town (what if only three people voted?). However, it IS a way of forcing people to be active about choosing who to vote, because SOMEONE is going to die.

I suppose. Though personally I'd see the threat of no one going to die a bigger incentive to be active.

but isn't that actually good for town in most cases? the chances of lynching scum are slim compared to town and especially D1 you'll likely won't have a scum pile on anyway so the majority lynch default would actually be helping mafia and not town, wouldn't it? so I'd think if the slackers want at least a chance of lynching scum they better do something because just slacking will kill the highest wagon and that's definitely not a scum wagon (noone busses D1, do they?)

EDIT: ok I think that was too convoluted.

a) majority lynch default should make town more active because there IS going to be a lynch and it's way easier for scum to manipulate the highest wagon to be on a townie than for scum to manipulate a real lynch.

b) majority lynch vs. no lynch as default should make no difference for analyzing D1 wagon as scum wouldn't pile on/ bus on D1 anyway? (yes it's sounds stupid to me now, too sorry :( )

don't really know what I was trying to say but I think it was something along those lines
