Gamerager is eliminated. He was Mafia Strongarm.
For some five or six minutes everything is very quiet and I can hear people jawing and having a good time in the front of Gog's and I am sure I can even hear Gog tapping his fingers on his countertop to the tune of "Bring them Marching Home", though I condsider later maybe that the tune is in fact "Goodbye Sweetheart", which is more suitable for Gog's voice as he is quite a fine tenor when the mood takes him.
So, in recognition of this change in atmosphere I lean over to Shapie Lonzi and ask her,
"What is being discussed at this time?" quite confidential like.
"They are deciding what is to be done about me," she tells me, "and Games O'Rager and Jocelyn Carradice, the Dancer."
"Done about you?" I reply, "Why should there be something to be done?"
"It is over the matter of the Diceman who is poisoned here in May, and Cadaver Slim who is slugged in his his hotel room. They are saying that because we are doing these things, and they are the lot of them in some disapproval of these acts, that we are best to be used up one way or another,"
I find these words a little disquieting to hear, and so I remark like this:
"Shapie!" I say, still in a whisper, confidential like, "is it true you did these things?"
"I don't mind telling you how it's true, and we would be getting the rest of them like this still, were it not for them putting it together like they do. It is a terrible shame that we are only getting the two of them that we do, and they are only doing up the Fish and the Lift while they look for us, because I would greatly like to see all of them fall very hard for to make amends for the low treatment of Games' late brother Saul, who is one time my ever-loving husband and a great friend of Jocelyn Carradice, the Dancer.
And she sighs at that point a very low and sad sigh, and I can not but ask her what makes her so sad as all that, and she tells me,
"Personally, I am thinking it is best to make a clean confession of things here, and let things fall out however they will, but if I am knowing Jocelyn Carradice, she is eagering up to pull something fast on Shirley Primalley, who she is always believing to do the worst for poor Saul."
And before I am asking what Jocelyn Carradice is likely to pull on Shirley Primalley, there is a horrible noise as Shirley Primalley says like this:
"AAIEEEEEEEEEUGH!"
And it seems that Shapie Lonzi has been quite exact where Jocelyn Carradice, the Dancer, is concerned and Shirley Primalley has a stilletto in the neck and is causing some stir over it, and meanwhile Games O'Rager is making trouble with Lazy Walkins and Miss Pookie Mustard who all three of them have pulled out the old equaliser and slugs are going through the air and crying out whangitty whang whang as they do.
Well Shapie asks me if I don't think this is as good a time as any to take our leave, and I agree, though it does pain me no end to leave Gog's without having had any lunch at all, and she takes me by the arm and we step out the front of Gog's and the weather on the street is as fine as it gets in our city with a most unseasonable sunshine.
"It is a shame things fall out the way they do, but I am glad, at least," Shapie tells me "that you know the story of Saul, and will remember him to those you speak to."
And, though I am not knowing exactly who Shapie is expecting me to tell about all this, being as I am not the kind of guy the parties of this city look to talk to, I tell her I will do just that, and I wave fondly to her as she sets off down Broadway.
And there is really no more to tell of this story, except to say that as I turn to go I see Cristine the Gale and Scenes Supplamicz, and they are kissing each other back and forth very friendly, and it is clear to me that they are very much in love, and I hear now that they are living out in Salt Lake City, Utah, and to speak of them they are considered good and savoury characters these days, and it is thought that they will never give anybody low treatment as long as they both shall live.
The Mafia have conceded the game. They were Carradice, Mafia Redirector, and Joppo, Mafia Bulletproof Regular, filling in for Lonzi
The Game is Over! Town Win! Congratulations!
