JoeSapphire: TRENTONLF - I didn't make the roleblockers unable-to-target-the-same-target-twice-in-a-row, because it never occurred to me. Is it all that common? I'm not sure I've come across it.
I don't know. I don't think I have seen that limitation for roleblockers yet. But for Doctors it is quite common that they can't protect the same target twice in a row. (To avoid game-breaking with a follow-the-cop strategy)
This was interesting to follow, especially near the end. As someone that knows exactly nothing about pokemon, and had no interest in looking things up, the pokemon lingo and flavour flew over my head, plus felt quite distracting when trying to figure out what the Night-actions results, alignments and actual roles were. But probs to JoeSapphire for investing the time and effort to do it; he sure seemed to enjoy it, and hopefully the players did too.

GG Mafia for exploiting Town's weaknesses, and winning in spite losing a member early on. Though, if I may say so, it seemed to me that manipulating supplementscene wasn't all that hard due to his proneness to not only tunnel hard but also not listen to others if they disagree with him.

And as someone that usually roots for Town as an observer, Vitek fought really hard to get people to see who the Mafia are. Shame, you should have listened to him, flubbucket's scum-tells started as early as post #568, and the way he kept responding to Vitek after that just sealed it.

Are you sure about that? Your PM reads to me like you were a VT [emphasis added]:
ABILITIES: Thunderbolt is a powerful, accurate move that has a decent chance to leave the enemy unable to fight back. Unfortunately you can't get out of the cage they lock you in, so you won't get a chance to use it.
Plus, it's not among the possible roles JoeSapphire had posted in the sign-up thread.

supplementscene: [...] While Trent/Vitek read right they weren't persuasive enough in their analysis to win me over.
When you're dead-set that your own read of the game state is the right one, no analysis will ever win you over, no matter how good it is. The only reason you were persuaded by LIfthrasil's and flubbucket's arguments is that they re-enforced your own scum-read of Vitek, and not because they were more persuasive than those of Vitek or trentonlf. I hope that with time and experience you'll learn to be open to others' takes, and re-evaluate your own reads.

Yes, I'm nothing if not incredibly serious and certain at all times.

:P
Sorry Trent and Vitek, you played really well but I lost us this game :(

I thought Vitek being flippant and not claiming was a weird. Should've thought it through instead of just going for vote, that was stupid.

Well played lift and flub, you both had me fooled.

I know it exactly the way this scum does.

I amy be wrong but my understanding was SPF attributed himself that role from distracting town from more important things by his play?

You (Amy) don't be wrong!
avatar
Lifthrasil: Wow! So when I picked a Clefairy for my JOAT-claim, I actually hit one of your backup roles? What are the odds?
avatar
JoeSapphire: Yes! I was really impressed. My logic was that the move METRONOME replicates any other ability at random, so I think that role would have been a random-chance jack-of-all-trades, which wasn't strictly amongst the roles I offered. The other flaw was that I couldn't think how a clefairy could bypass the cage bars, but nobody was bothered by that. I'm sure if Ele was playing she'd have picked up on it.

good choice of name! I was also really into "Pokedex the Clefairy" and was quite disappointed that you didn't go for it. If I'd have thought of it, I'd have done it.

TRENTONLF - I didn't make the roleblockers unable-to-target-the-same-target-twice-in-a-row, because it never occurred to me. Is it all that common? I'm not sure I've come across it.

VITEK - mostly your role was pretty weak, but you had the opportunity to confirm yourself - if you'd targeted someone sensible night 2 or 3 then you would have been in a pretty good position "I can't have roleblocked or killed because I was stinkin up your house - so unless there are 3 mafias still I've got to be town!" There was also the chance you'd distract the watcher.

Overall I enjoyed how the game played out. I think town expected much more of a punch from their actions, and maybe if they hadn't been expecting that the game would have been played a bit differently I don't know.

I don't think it was too imbalanced. I wanted to give all three mafias a role, just to give them more of a choice; if it was watcher, blocker and goon they would have had less options (but, turns out, played exactly the same strategy). I don't think a three-powers mafia team is any stronger than a two-powers team, because there's always going to be someone foregoing their ability to do murdering. Am I wrong?
IMO any role that has the ability to block or protect should never be able to be used twice in a row on someone, it is too powerful if it can. If a Roleblocker has the ability to continually block someone like a cop then the cop needs an ability to break the block at least once to compensate for the role being overpowered.

Well it's unusual for the mafia to know who the cop is - especially when they don't have a role cop. Sure if the cop decides to claim day two then a roleblocker's really powerful in that situation, but a cop might want to avoid doing so. Expecially if that cop already suspects there to be a roleblocker in the scenario. ;p

Wait, wasn't Flub a role cop?

No, he was a power cop. He could tell if someone had a role, but not what it was.

Which is still useful combined with a role blocker, but not as bad as a full on role cop.

I personally have no issue with roleblockers being able to hit the same target every night, it is the risk a cop takes by outing themselves early, and let's face it if you weren't blocked you'd just have been killed instead.
I think alignment cops are very overpowered so scum do need some kind of counter to that.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I don't have a huge problem with a roleblocker being allowed to repeatedly block one person. I can see how it would be useful to limit it to balance specific things.

Since there was no doctor, I might have had a town jailer instead of town roleblocker. Can still be used to block mafia but can also protect with the obvious caveat. That would serve to boost the overall power of the town while reducing the power of the cop somewhat.

It's definitely unusual for the cop to out themselves on day 2 though. Normally in that situation one might breadcrumb the result so it can be found if you die before reporting.

Ah, shit happens.
It's not end of the world (only close to it:-)).
I have to admit I was not happy when it happened and quite shocked, though.
You were very careful with your vote before and never expressed any notion of voting me and then suddenly you dropped da bomb.

Yet again it proves what I wrote eariler today. :-)
Weird behaviour doesn't equal scummy and lynching for banalities instead of real scum tells is rarely good idea.

That’s the thing, I should have been killed. I had no reason to withhold the fact that I copped a scum on my first night, it was a boon for town. It effectively made the cop useless if they had to reveal themselves for any reason. I knew when I revealed I would be dead soon unless we had a doctor in the game and then I might live one more night. If there’s going to be an option for a Roleblocker, town or scum, to be able to block the same person every night then they need to be limited in shots they have. If not that they need to not be able to block the same person in multiple nights.

I'd have thought cops out themselves soon (and definitely as soon as they learn of a scum) so their info doesn't die with them if they get killed. Shows my inexperience...
