It hasn't been handled in a particularly Townie fashion. It fits why he wouldn't want to claim, but being vague about things here at the 11th hour makes no sense.

I thought he was hesitant to say because he didn’t know how much he was allowed to reveal. I could be reading it wrong since I usually get it wrong most times anyway :-/

Claiming your role is fine. If it's a role that involves another player directly, claiming the link to that player is fine.

Why?

A lover role might make sense, depending on the pokemon ZFR is (or claims to be), it's only one word from his PM (besides, it's basically his role name) so it shouldn't count as quoting but may well clear him.

If ZFR is actually town Lover with knowledge that the other Lover is also town, I actually understand why he doesn't want to reveal his Lover. If he gets lynched, both will die. If he doesn't get lynched, he is a prime NK target. But being the prime target he would also be a prime protection target. With a revealed second lover, scum would have twice the amount of targets and hypothetical protection roles would only have half the chance to protect the correct target. So, if that T-T Lover claim is true, don't try to reveal the second lover.

However, I have a bit difficulty believing the Lover+confirmed alignment combination. That would be Lovers and Masons at the same time. In a game where I was lover in the past, we had a chat but didn't know each other's alignment. And my lover turned out to be scum. So I see it as quite possible that ZFR is either wrong in his assumption that his partner is town. Or isn't town himself and is just using the lover role and how he handles it to try to buy town points.
