So 22 was the one that the "more experienced" players told you to tone down your approach, and that too aggressive a play is detrimental, yet you ignored us and continued that approach. Said advice was given to you not only in the game thread, but in the QT thread as well. Yet your playing style continued to be the one you thought correct, not the one the other players suggested to you.

So, should a new player choose his own style or go with what the more experienced players tell them to do?

And tot his day I think people have understood the repercussions of acting rashly just because something looks so obviously unnatural.
As a matter of fact, you should remember that game. It was the day one role claiming fest everybody seems to be complaining about now. And they criticized me for not claiming day 1. Bah.

No, but I think once a wagon builds to a certain point conversation becomes stifled and rightly or wrongly we tend to push that wagon until we get a lynch or some kind of role claim which postpones a lynch and I don't think we're ready for either yet.

Bookwyrm, may not have realized what he was doing as town. I don't see how a scum would dare type anything close to that. What convinced me is that the root word in general does not appear in the OP nor any of the pre-game hype. I checked.

So, to me , I see that as a pretty fair town tell.

I haven't pestered you at all. You decided to take part yourself. I'm having a discussion with a bunch of the other players. It seems I have mislead you that you are the cornerstone in making sense out of my theory. That is not the case though.

I have to agree. Since Dedo above doesn't think I add much but some random chatter. Ill add my thoughts now who I think needs to be looked at a bit more.

Hyper - Do I find him to be scum. No but I do not find him to be town. I find him to be no existent for the most part. Would like to hear a lot more as he is a strong player with great questions.

Ix- for jumping into the game and right onto Rob. I found this to be untown like. Almost like just jumping in and trying to throw a vote and see if it sticks. Does this alone make him scum? no but I want to watch him.

I have twilight sitting in neutral as not much conversation or opinions have come - though he did state RL and I under stand that so he is sitting at neutral.

Something about the first quote I had of Robbeasy's (the one where I vote for him) just rang to me like dedo and Robb playing as scumbuddies, but "out loud" if that makes sense.

One of your own quotes of dedo that I had missed before reinforces that idea for me (he says "Calling Robb a liar... especially when I see Robb as leaning Town"). Robb has contributed nothing that would firmly put him in anyone's camp as leaning town. It's just not there.

I suppose dedo could have other means of knowing Robb is Town, but at this point I really have no reason to shift my vote off him, or change my original thinking.

My whole intention in post 171 was to move this game out of RVS as it was getting stagnant and all it would do is benefit scum. I even state it at the start of the post. I chose to pick Bookwyrm as he had been making a lot of posts that were anti town and I knew it would stimulate conversation from everyone.

That part worked, but I sure do wish the whole word thing had been left out. When I got my PM all I did was briefly skim it to see what my name and part in this game was. I feel the PM should be a taboo area to bring up in any game. The games that were played and PM's were used to break it made me realize it is a lot less fun that way.

This game is using your mind and words to help or hinder not your PM from the mod.

I say let's play the game, leave PM's and words contained therein out of it. Let's play the game as it should be.

But, couldn't he be a scum who may not have realized what he was doing? Or, perhaps he is a cagey scum who decided to come out swinging with a WIFOM statement from the get-go? He is a new player, so I don't take anything for granted.

Oh, that's me, huh? Yeah, I do discredit the idea that it is a huge deal. Let's just assume that you are correct, and it is a huge town tell. It was blatantly obvious, since, as you say, the root word doesn't appear anywhere else. It sticks out like a sore thumb. So, regardless of whether or not it appears in everyone's PM, I think everyone would have a decent chance of guessing where it came from.

Actually, in the case where somebody doesn't have a similar word in their PM, I think they might be more prone to see it as odd and make a note of it. Moreover, as a case in point, the person I think it would have the best chance of clearing would be the person that set this all off by voting for Bookwyrm627: trentonlf. He is the first to let slip that the word in question wasn't identical to the word in the PM.

So, yes, I think this is being overblown. All in all, I just don't think it was a good litmus test for scum.

I disagree. I don't think PMs should be left out of the game. I think if theya re there, they should be used. However, how does a mod make the game more balanced? Different PMs for pretty much each individual. Paraphrased, entirely unique, short or long. While it is true it adds a lot more work on a mod's part, it entirely destroys the notion of "if it's there, use it."

You also have to realize people enjoy things differently. Some enjoy challenges, while other simply want an easy dominant run.

I might do the opposite, and just make every single PM identical except for the role/alignment information. For added fun, I would make it really long with tons of buzzwords and let players just quote anything they want from their PMs.

Now that I have said this, I will never be able to do this. :(
