Will games that are normally available for linux be available for chrome os? Since most normal linux apps are unavailable for chrome os, but I still want to know if you can play those games without installing ubuntu and just downloading it normally.

Chrome OS is just a distribution of Linux right?
Games probably aren't tested on it but I imagine they might just work if there is a Linux version.
Edit: Not sure if the installer and stuff would actually work though, someone running Linux would need to tell you.

Chrome OS is, I believe, a bit too locked down for GOG to just support it.

If you have an x86 Chromebook, you can turn on developer mode and install another Linux userland in a chroot. (Try Crouton, which will allow you to install Ubuntu.) Once you do this, you should be able to just run Linux games in the chroot (or get WINE and try some Windows games).

If you have an ARM Chromebook, you are out of luck. You might be able to get DOS games running with DOSBox, however.

omega64's advice advice still applies though (if I interpreted your post correctly in that you're getting the machine regardless of whether or not GOG's games work on it). When you get the Chrome OS machine, try one of the free games.

If you want to have any chance of running GOG games on it, make sure to get one with an x86 CPU (Intel or AMD). Do not get one with an ARM CPU.

The last time I checked, Chrome OS was an Internet-dependant environment working only with web apps. So no, that "OS" won't be useful for anything more than Web browsing for the next 2 centuries...

Ah is that what Chrome OS is. I was under the impression it was just a regular Linux Distibution as I've never used it.

That’s the problem with the term Linux: it can mean anything. Technically, Linux is just the kernel, but is has become synonymous with the entire operating system and all of its derivatives. Chrome OS is a Linux-based operating system, in fact, it’s based on Gentoo. The system has been modified by Google so that it will let the user ‘install’ web-apps only. You’d have to install a separate environment, e.g. by using chroot, to get under the bonnet.

You can install Ubuntu on Chromebooks using a program call Crouton: [url=]https://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/795730-how-to-easily-install-ubuntu-on-chromebook-with-crouton[/url]

I haven't tried this myself yet, but came across it when researching Chromebooks and ChromeOS.
