the japanese version of Vanguard Princess is freeware, the steam version of Vp are the same and uses the same outdated engine... (no practice mode, no vs cpu, no online mode, no video config, sound config and buggy and limited control support), the only real differece between both is the ENGLISH version is censured until you download a free DLC... they added another dlc (must pay) you can play whit the Boss Hilda an unbalanced Copy-Pasted character... in my opinion Braid is a priority, this is not one....

Barry_Woodward: Giant Bomb Video Review
RYAN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus fucking H. Christ, is every other thread now going to be about how X indie game was rejected by GOG and how it's such a scandal? It's not enough that people have to CAPITALISE words like REJECTED and SERIOUSLY just to elevate the hyperbole into the realms of the ridiculous.

Yes, GOG rejected it. Get over it. Old indie games rarely sell well, outside of a few exceptions like Dust and Mark of the Ninja, which are sustainable IPs due to their representing more mainstream genres. Braid is pushing five years old now. It's been bundled countless times. It's been on sale on Steam so many times it's not funny any more. The sales potential of that game has been exhausted. It was already a niche title.

If you want it DRM-free, get it off the Humble Store.

Although Braid is a very good indie game (so is Mark of The Ninja, Thomas Was Alone is ok), unfortunately most people already got them cheap from Humble.

Do they deserve to be on GOG? Yes!
It's a tragedy if they aren't available on GOG? Not really, like I said, most people already got them both Steam and DRM-free and also cheaper. Personally I won't buy them again.

While their intentions are good, I don't think GOG user should try contacting recent game developers and act as an middleman between them and GOG. These developers know about GOG and GOG knows how to contact them.

Perhaps the efforts should only be concentrated on those games which legal owners are hard to be find. Just sayin'

Most people? Most people out of what 7+ billion worldwide? I not dismissing the fact that some already own the game elsewhere, but I'm not convinced it's as much a people think.

Well, I don't know if there was an issue about the terms of the arrangement, but I do think that not having braid on gog is absurd. This game is a classic, and that's what gog is about. It belongs to this wave of indies that (re)launched the indie, scone (with world of goo, osmos, etc), it's an excellent game, quite memorable in terms of art and gameplay, and, most importantly, it's a classic in the sense of how it gets referred to in the gaming world - its iconic graphocs, iconic gameplay, iconic moment in game market.

As faras I'm concerned, this is a g.o.g., and a game that has mattered. And it does belong in a gog museum.

Well, most people out of those millions of people interested in playing (and buying) Braid. Braid was featured both in HIB 2 and HIB 5. HIB 2 was also given to those who had bought HIB 3 so we are talking about millions and millions of copies. Braid has less than 800 votes and because it was sold for 1$ elsewhere I bet that, apart for a few people, 80-90% will only buy it at 75-80% discount.

I also would like to see Braid on GOG but I won't buy it and I understand if GOG tries to select only those games who sell or to pick a game which will be available Day 1 on GOG (like The Witness, if Jonathan Blow agrees), not after several years.

trentonlf: You mean I shouldn't start a thread asking for all the new AAA titles? You are taking all the fun out of it :(
avatar
LiquidOxygen80: Better idea. Contact the publishers of said AAA titles and tell them to stop being tightasses, in a polite way, of course. Maybe mention wishlist numbers and let the other members know, so we can "raid" their forums. :)

Barry_Woodward: Actually the Humble Bundles 2, 3 and 5 combined sales were 1,204,257. So over a million but not "millions and millions". In order to get Braid in the 2nd and 5th bundles, I believe, you had to pay above the average, so not all of the humble bundles sold had the game.
Only 1,2 millions? I thought more, I think I confused the nr. of sales with the value ($).
Braid was available for 1$ in HIB2 and as a bonus (even for those who paid 1$ till that moment) in HIB5.
I think still more than 1 milion people got Braid, comparing to the 800 votes from GOG.
I don't know what costs implies bringing Braid here (lawyer fees for striking the deal, bank fees, taxes (VAT) and more) so I understand why Braid doesn't seem to be high on anyone's priority list (including Jonathan Blow).
I'm hardly in the know when it comes to GOG's internal issues, however, it looks to me like they may be short on staff. If you've only got so many office drones to negotiate with and sign on owners/publishers, new releases are definitely going to take priority over older indies that pretty much everyone already owns (especially after it was in a Humble Bundle). At least, that's the most plausible explanation I can come up with.

In addition, whilst http://www.gog.com/forum/general/vanguard_princess_vs_gog reports that GOG weren't interested, https://twitter.com/eigoMANGA/status/404025176674668544 - see also http://www.gog.com/forum/general/groupees_lets_build_a_doujin_bundle_2/post133 - puts the matter in a different light.
